Did we discuss this book about the decoration of 30s and 40s stairwells in Malmö? It was mentioned in it even though the book is primarily concerned with domestic buildings.

Great, I fixed the link to no longer be to the app but instead I managed to add an 'A' to the beginning of 'relief' ...

Did you see this while walking around the Folket park area?

Last Autumn I found out it's Solidar's old office building, explaining the Arelief of Hermes above the entrance: www.google.com/maps/place/R...

I have been lax posting corners but here's St. Bride's Church (1959 – 64), East Kilbride - Gillespie, Kidd & Coia (under Andy MacMillan & Isi Metzstein):

I wouldn't know, I'm afraid. I guess the fact London's become so expensive might've changed how many people move there. Everyone used to know someone who moved to London back then, but I guess it might just have been being 20.

And yes: Gothenburg's population is 675 000, Malmö's 340 000.

Back in the 90s it used to be said that going by population London would be the third largest Swedish city.

Yes, Stockholm's been almost entirely cleansed of odd, old and grimy places that still seemed to exist in the 80s.

And I'd imagine you wouldn't actually, it's a not very good crime comedy but it had views of Söder mälarstrand that I could only place thanks to the views of Stadshuset.

I haven't read that, I'm afraid. I'm in general badly read when it comes to Swedish classics. I have read Röda rummet thrice, though, speaking of famous depictions of Stockholm and remember it as a very different book every time.

I actually happened to see part of a film from 1986 on telly tonight and thought how different that Stockholm looked to the one I moved to 15 years later, not to mention what it's like now, a quarter of a century on.

Oh, it wasn't a struggle, I enjoyed it. I've read some books on architectural history which I've had to force myself through but that wasn't the case with Ulysses. Then again I didn't read an annotated version, even though a middle-aged man who saw me read it on the train insisted I had to.

It is interesting seeing the palace without Strömbron: quite a different setting.

It is, yes. I felt after having lived in Dublin I probably should read it at some point.

It was while commuting to Helsingborg so I was lugging that thing around every day for a month and a half.

I found it good but have no interest in reading Finngans Wake.

Oh please don't, it isn't worth it.

Partly written as the script of a play, you say? Now that reminds me of a slightly earlier book (not translated into Swedish until 1946, mind):

Around the same time I spent a Christmas break trying to get through Ginsburgs Style and Epoch which was a hard struggle (I didn't finish that either, but did get so far it feels fine having given up on the last part).

Spending that time actually finishing Acceptera might've made more sense.

I like the bit about objectivity and selecting quotes; I'd like to imagine it would have stuck if I'd read it but can't be sure.

God, I can't remember, it's almost 25 years ago. I know I didn't finish it, though.

I guess I might've and somehow internalised that point, or maybe it's just such an obvious example of a boxy classical building it's what any Swede would reach for.

Two days in a row my work computer has just frozen at 19.12 and while the fan has been running like crazy. Nothing to do but ro force it to shut down and restart.

Very odd, and almost like it's trying to tell me something.

Coming home late from work, somewhat frazzled after a couple of weeks like this, I put on Lazer Guided Melodies. I'm not entirely sure this was the right choice.
