I'm the same way, it's hard to stay motivated playing bass on your own. I'd noodle around on guitar sometimes, but i'm happier playing bass with other people. I lucked into a fun band with some old friends, not sure i'd be playing much otherwise.

I'm a fellow bass player who had a ~25 year gap of not actively playing, and re-started just a couple of years ago. My best advice is to find some friends to play with. There are a ton of great online resources, but nothing is as good as playing music with people regularly.
