Picture of "We Are The World" session
Every Saturday I make a playlist of the Top 20 songs from this week in 1985.
This week "We Are The World" topples Phil Collins, DeBarge continues to ascend, and, for better or worse, The Power Station slides into the charts with a dose of sleaze.

I got a soft quote from a friend at a really good firm for my last album of $5k. He was honest about it too, conceding that would basically get me nothing in today's market.
It’s not just majors. Broadly speaking, there are a handful of PR firms that drive what gets picked up by bigger publications, and if you’re not with one of those, good luck.
More interesting is the pipeline from smaller to bigger firms and seeing artists just skip the smaller ones these days.
So you’re saying it’s not just Spotify that’s dirty?
I'm not sure how you can be against removing this man from office right now. What will it take? A nuke being dropped? It's too late then. The purpose of impeachment and the 25th Amendment is to prevent that type of thing from happening, not just to react to it.
WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW????

This week Phil Collins stands in the way of defeating world hunger, Madonna doubles down on dominance, and one of the most ubiquitous songs of the 80's begins its rise to the top

Regardless, get this album into your life at all costs. You deserve it. 🧵[5/5]

And while it is great that she is upfront about it, for anyone who ONLY is interested in the "officially locked" version of the album but already bought it, they'll have to shell out $45 more to get it. Eventually. The officially locked version is not currently available on vinyl. 🧵[4/5]
For a lot of people though, this is just going to make it harder to support truly independent artists. A completely unforced error. 🧵[3/5]
For me, this isn't a dealbreaker. The album is a once-in-a-decade-ish achievement that exists in the stratosphere beside albums like Channel Orange and Lemonade. It is essential, alive, and this, apparently, is just part of it’s journey. 🧵[2/5]
RAYE Apologizes To Fans Who Bought Her New Album On Vinyl Because It’s Not The Final Mix
Picked up @raye's "THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE." yesterday completely unaware of this situation. 🧵[1/5]
Conversely, our album discussions are the result of spending weeks with a work and acknowledging that a year from now how we feel about and understand it will most assuredly change.

Most album reviews are disposable because they're written too soon.
"what do I think after two listens?" Is a shit way of reviewing. Some albums take years before you realise how great they were, or how over hyped.
This new one from Raye is an all-time great on the border of Beyoncé's 'Lemonade'.
Best experienced in one sitting.

This week Phil Collins is on top.
But isn't Phil Collins on top EVERY week?

Where all my Milwaukee weirdos at tomorrow night?

One of the greatest albums of all time and, depending on the day, Prince's finest achievement. We'd def be discussing this if we weren't on hiatus.
Good news is that AI could probably make a Discologist clone if you're jonesing for that discussion

This week the chart is stacked with nothing but musical giants, and one transcendent song by The Commodores that meant a lot to hear again 41 years after it debuted.

In the 80s, even the shitty music was cool.
Every Saturday I make a playlist of the Top 20 songs from this week in 1985.
This week REO Speedwagon holds #1, Madonna and Phil Collins make big moves, and Survivor gets "High On You," proving that sensitive macho will never die (it only gets louder).

Pretty crazy how important the blockade of a trade route is right now
It's one of the great underutilized uses of the grounds/those venues. BMO should be booked all Summer into the Fall.
Just a little local context:
The Milwaukee venues are on Summerfest Grounds and are pretty much only booked during Summerfest - 3 weeks out of the year.
Every Saturday I make a playlist of the Top 20 Countdown from this week in 1985.
This week Wham gets wacked out of the top spot in a drive-by from REO Speedwagon, the hits remain solid throughout, and Phil Collins begins his ascent to pop god.

We had to let go of our sweet, sweet boy Gizmo this afternoon.
We can never repay the love you gave us or how much you made this universe not just tolerable, but a better place. But we thank you for letting us love you all the same.
I will miss you, and love you forever, my sweet, sweet boy.
