Maybe he was forced to pay big money by Cohen. But Soto is a generational hitter and younger. Lindor’s starting the back half of his career. Now if they have to tear it down to studs, Soto will certainly fetch more on the market but that’ll be a huge dent in this team recruiting FAs in future

my sense is also that they don’t have the slightest idea who they are with all the turnover. definitely not all that good (especially mental make-up). the setting the organization back yrs part also seems to rest on Lindor’s value moving fwd. i’m quite fond of him but feel it’s time to move on.

What’s the diagnosis tho? The roster AND coaching staff was overhauled on a team that had already “underperformed” so the number of possible factors here is multiple. They went from disappointing to wretched.

Phew. This is rough.

I also detest that when they lose all the fascistic, transphobic shit that Dolan does is all that’s left to discuss about MSG.

I detest that this team just doesn’t want the smoke or the moment.

He’s definitionally mediocre.

Mikal Bridges fading away.

That’s it.

That says EVERYTHING.

It’s obvious they can win the series. It’s also obvious their mental fortitude is on skates and they can’t assert their will as a group like a championship team does throughout a playoff run. It’s classic sinking feeling basketball.

Mike Brown inspires nothing.

Things I don’t want to hear:
- Brunson’s mumbly ass “it’s on me” when that is obvious and it’s unclear he knows how to do balance involving his co-star while being on-call to score and cook.
- Mike Brown
- Rick Brunson’s weird ass assistant coach commercials for Princeton car dealerships

Why couldn’t they get KAT the ball?

2 days ago 2 0 0 0

Brunson played hero ball and his shrinking violet castmates just stood around and watched. So easy to beat that “strategy.”

Brunson is easy to bait. You get physical with him and then he gets easy to trap, tries to play hero ball and then his already weak-minded supporting cast become even more shrinking violets and stand around and watch him play hero ball.

This Knicks team has had the mental fortitude for a wet paper bag all season long. Not surprising they collapsed.

Mike Brown coaches with the strategic acumen of a lifelong assistant.

Brunson played selfish. OG choked. Mikal played like the softie he’s been all season. Deuce was awful.

Feel bad for KAT and Josh who played smart and tough.

Deuce McBride’s effort and energy are unacceptable.

What is Mike Brown doing???

Fuck this effort by Deuce.

Truly why is Deuce in this game.

Oh man, i know it’s been a minute since he was on the roster but having Don Smith become a Braves legend is some kinda salt in the wound of the 2026 #Mets season. Lol.

At this point no one firing or trade is gonna do anything to address the deeper problems with the team, but it might move the needle. Is that worth it? Not sure. Have to be clear if you’re gonna tinker or overhaul first. Would say a lot about Stearns’ assessment of his own moves either way.

i also feel like this needed to be Soto’s team and was fine with Lindor being moved as part of the process of building around Juan.

Prob the first thing in Stearns’ diary tonight.

this has all blown up in Stearns face so spectacularly. all time faceplant. #Mets

Lol. Straight and to the point. Agreed on all pts. It’s a re-tooling gone awry. Would’ve been more palatable to me as a gap year than how it was sold as still competitive. (tho prob not to Juan, Francisco, and a big segment of the fanbase etc.)

In assessing Stearns, are you clear on how much he had to clean up issues under Eppler or other past GMs? Tbh I’m not entirely.

Farm was weak and now seems better. Pitching dev seems stronger? What about coaching across the minors and majors? Free agency is a mixed bag at best.

2. Our other superstar somehow doesn’t get along with him and consistently underperforms at the start of each season. 3. We do have great young talent hey have to expose them to the loser Mets vibes of yesteryear. Only good that’s come out of this is fans shedding the gross “uncle steve” shtick.

I’m don’t want to kvetch about this team. I’d be fine giving the situation some slack if this weren’t so extreme and embarrassing and if there weren’t exacerbating factors like 1. We signed one of the greatest hitters since Ted Williams in his prime and give him reasons to want out.
