Every time I see a story like this about the airports, I keep thinking 'And the World Cup is right around the corner'

Realizing that some of my inexplicable sadness about the Artemis II stuff is that it feels like a trans-dimensional communication from an America that took a different path and chose joy instead of fear and hate.

The question I find myself asking is 'if Americans can elect a Democrat in 2028, will it be more than a pause in the madness like Biden's term was?'

It's depressing to think about, but it's the most hopeful I can be right now.

Honestly, I hate being cynical and I hate the fact that a lot of what's happening in the USA right now leads me to cynicism.

I want to have hope, but it's hard to hope when Americans elects a President that wants to invade Greenland for...what? Shits and giggles?

I can only speak for myself (a queer Brit studying the Revolution), but after seeing Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Trump 1 & 2, it's really hard to have much sympathy for Americans.

I do try because I know not all Americans are okay with current events, but...yeah, it's real hard.

If you want a reason why I picked 1950, I see 'empire' as the ability of a nation imposing its authority on another smaller nation while being able to contain any substantial pushback, either internal or external.

After 1950, Britain's ability to do this is severely curtailed.
