everyone makes the whole ereader thang too hard. And there's only so much innovation you can do to sell more models. There's nothing shiny about them. Ebooks have always been easier on tablets which means you can have a kindle or kobo app, etc

I just got back from another trip and another obvious change is the rise of Chinese fashion brands.
oh wow!
I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

Started to play Myst yesterday but it is rather annoying having to click to move each time. How far gaming has come...I will return to it another time as it's a tiny 2GB install on the PS5.
Partner has a fire going in the east living room and I have an electric heater in the office/media room.
Might finish early today and get back to Outer Worlds.
Presenting the #InternationalBooker2025 shortlist.

The eldest has already bought and started the new Assassin's Creed though I am disappointed they did it as a digital download as I like having the physical on the shelf. I will play it later and pick up the physical copy later on.
Meanwhile I am waiting for Atomfall to drop on Thursday :)
I've created a #InfoOnline25 Bluesky starter pack. If you would like people added please let me know and I'll get right on it!

TIL if I hit CTRL+Enter while in a document in Nitro PDF, a computer starts reading the document aloud.
Needless to say I did this accidentally as I usually use CTRL+Enter to send an email and forgot the focus was still on the PDF and not the email
Worries me a little when I meet an adult who claims they've only been collecting books for a few months...and that's all the books they have. What does that even mean?
I get that there is a distinction, sometimes fine, between collecting and accumulating but where's the fun in that.
A downside of non alcoholic drinking is a distinct lack of late night book purchases.
Off to a good start with first book of the year finished: Flights by Olga Tokarczuk. Now reading Perdido Street Station by China Miéville.
I still haven't read this though I recently picked up the series in a nicely bound edition with plans to read them all this year.
Southern Highlands, near Mittagong. Far enough to escape Sydney and close enough to commute :-)
I finally read this a few weeks ago, loved it. Wish I'd read it long ago.
Was lovely to see you pop up the other day. I'm here occasionally but mostly on a local ausglam mastodon instance
In Sydney overnight and glad I have aircon. 80% humidity reminds me why I left.
I read Orbital a couple of weeks ago. Nice, quick read :-)
Documenting ordinary stories: Local studies collections in public libraries - a couple of papers and a thesis readplayparticipate.blogspot.com/2024/11/docu... bringing this together for easier discovery
Yuck, it was much friendlier in the highlands and we all got to a happy place in a fairly straightforward manner.
Next big ticket item will be new solar panels + battery. We removed old panels prior to roof replacement as they were really old and barely functional :)
When we bought our current, and hopefully final, place it was well under the max we could pay. That meant we had the funds for repairs and improvements later and lots of piece of mind :) Work done so far includes: fixing central heating, replace entire roof, new guttering, replace fireplace
Though also reading my lovely edition (for a standard edition it is fabulously made) of Flowers for Algernon conversationtreepress.com/pages/flower...
Have moved on from Juice and on to Orbital, the recent Booker winner.
Up late finishing a book, Juice by Tim Winton. Unimpressed to say the least though I wanted to like it. Lacked the tightness that Breath had where every word felt necessary. Juice seemed to ramble on and on.
That's ok, this platform still feels slow.
