I think this is beyond the tariffs at this point. Global markets have lost confidence in the United States government.

I think it's actually on Congressional Republicans to stand up to him for the first time and take back their authority. Markets don't trust Trump anymore so backing down now would just stop the bleeding at best. We're probably cooked until power is out of his hands.

Lot of long-term and possibly permanent damage already done, unfortunately, but can stop the bleeding and have a light at the end of the tunnel.

Capital definitely won't sit by idly while this happens. Congressional R's may actually be forced to grow a spine but will get wiped out at the midterms anyway, so at the very least there would be a Dem controlled congress to block their agenda in the back half.

Worst case scenario would be that they let the economy continue humming along while slowly consolidating power and dismantling institutions. Hard to get anyone to care when material conditions are good.
