I live next to the number 1 port in the country for automobile traffic. Last week I wrote an op-ed for my local paper about how DOGE cuts are affecting the local community. Most commenters blew it off.

Hi polisky friends. I'm looking for suggestions on a current events assignment for my Intro class. I want to require some regular (weekly?) assignments where they turn in a report on current events, and then maybe we talk about some of the submissions in class. Any suggestions or examples?

My writing will focus on a couple of different things: Democracy, what's wrong with it in America and where we go from here, Civics, why people aren't more involved and what can we do to get them there, and finally, translating academic findings to the public. So please, let me know what you think!
