Compared to my life as young adult in the 80’s, I can see why young adults who came of age in the aftermath of the Great Recession might not agree that today’s economy is similarly structured.
That includes considering that I started my career just before the worst recession since WW II.

Development of mature, industrial scale technologies can literally take decades. DOE kicked off a lot of applied research that shaped today’s energy and industrial infrastructure. If you look at ratio of energy consumption to GDP, we bent the curve and became remarkably more efficient.
Factory closures in the Rust Belt, farm foreclosures, and the hangover from the energy crisis overshadowed the foreign policy successes. Clinton campaign messaging worked.
Waiting for @radiofreetom.bsky.social to weigh in on the requirements for playing James Bond…
Once upon a time, the post office delivered the mail effectively. After a generation of cost cutting, mail is rarely delivered in a timely fashion if it doesn’t go missing completely.
A democratic governor from a red/purple state has to be a strong contender. That combination gets the attention of independents.
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is POTS not PTSD.
I’m reminded of “Hope is not a plan.”
Finally watch Sinners last night. It was the most refreshingly original movie I’ve seen in ages. I think this recognition was well deserved.
No one carries a balance on a credit card at 25% interest
…or keeps making purchases with it
…or only makes the minimum payment each month.
Right?
Have you watched “The Big Short” (understanding that the movie isn’t perfect)?
Not all buyers taking out teaser rate ARM’s understood or were even aware of the risk involved.
The market transferred risk from dishonest lenders to investors who didn’t realize they were buying junk bonds.
300 pages of potential tax breaks to reduce your tax liability to zero or maybe even get a refundable credit?
The EV owners who can use roof-top solar panels to charge up are feeling really smug right now. Admittedly that requires battery storage or the right schedule.
Dec-Feb was the 2nd warmest winter for the Contiguous U.S. according to ERA5 Reanalysis. 31% of the Contiguous U.S. had their warmest winter on record (since 1940), 53% were much above average, and only 1% was much below average (both compared to the 1991-2020 baseline).
Let's check in and see how much winters have warmed over the last 50 years. 🔥🔥🔥
Here is how the Dec-Feb 2025-26 period compared to the 1991-2020 normal period. 🔥🔥🔥
OPINION: "In lived experience, Oxford is a good place to live, and the university is a good place to work.
"None of that means everything is perfect, and a recent MFP Voices commentary on the firing of Lauren Stokes reminds us of that," Graham Bodie writes.

…and if social media algorithms don’t show the notices to anyone, what has been gained?
Create a Mississippi Register (web site) similar to the Federal Register. Use all social media to announce posting of new notices.

Absent your first suggestion, the SAVE act most likely is an unconstitutional poll tax. Many of the early state-level voter ID laws were overturned because of the burdens they placed on voters that didn’t have a drivers license or other approved ID.
The burden of proof should be on the government, not the citizen. If a claim is made that someone isn’t eligible to vote, the government should be required to prove it in court before removing them from the voter rolls.
The right to vote is just as fundamental as freedom of speech and religion.
By decree, the value of Pi shall be 3, no more, no less…
Please ignore future structural failures.
Has X implemented age verification for Mississippi residents as required by state law?
Am I the only one finding it laughable that a tax credit is being proposed as a policy solution after the legislature acted to phase out the state income tax?
I guess a temporary solution is better than nothing.
Map showing the percentage of years (Jul-Jun) where February is the coldest month of the year.
The Dec-Jan period was the 7th warmest for the Contiguous U.S. since 1940. 21.1% had the warmest Dec-Jan during that period. 0.0% had the coldest Dec-Jan; 0.0% had the 2nd coldest, 0.0% had the 3rd coldest, .... all the way thru the 13th coldest.
Let's check in and see how much January has warmed in the U.S. and Canada over the last 75 years. 🔥🔥🔥
How cold has this winter been so far? The first 2/3 of winter 2025-26 is the 7th warmest on record for the Contiguous U.S.
