"American power had made possible an extraordinarily long peace"

This PalantirTech piece is quite something. My grandad experienced those German "fangs" during WWII and was happy to see them (temporarily) removed. Also, quite amazing that they celebrate a century of American peace while the US is fighting a war it started. twitter-thread.com/t/2045574398...

walkable cities strongly encourage a feeling of imagined community that helps make you a good citizen. if you experience the city only in slices it's easier to see large swathes of it as fundamentally alien or hostile.

Brussels launched an age checking app. Hackers say it takes 2 minutes to break it. Cyber experts say they have found holes in Brussels’ age verification app, despite claims by the EU executive that it is “technically ready.”

This actually proves that open source is a good model for security software. Article claims that EU was irresponsible with this app. So are many "tech" companies, but you only find out when they leak you credit card details.

Our team received a report of intermittent app outages at about 11:40pm PDT on April 15, 2026. They worked through the night to mitigate a sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which intensified throughout the day.

Comic. [Person and person with white hat facing two boxes stacked with $80 price tag and sale tag on each box.] PERSON 1: They want $80 for this? I could make one myself for $10 in parts, an hour of work, a trip to the hardware store, another $30 in parts, another few hours of work, two more trips to the store for $20 more in parts, another hour of work to redo the first hour of work because I messed up, and $80 to buy this when the one I made breaks.

The biggest internet swindle ever perpetrated was scumbags like Zuckerberg and Dorsey-- two of the absolute worst people who walk the earth-- somehow convinced us all to abandon our blogs and websites for their sites. And we all went along with it, like dumbasses. And now here we are.

AI is profoundly unpopular. A recent NBC News poll found that among 18-34 year-olds, AI's net favorability rating is -44. *Negative 44*. Those are basically serial killer numbers. It's not much better among women 18-49. (Men over 50 and upper class are the only ones who like AI, and just barely.)

This is your reminder to back up your data. Soon.

Collect your files that are important, and copy them somewhere: thumb drive, backup drive, something you can unplug. Cloud doesn't count.

Someday you'll lose your phone, or your account is compromised, or hardware will fall, but you'll be okay.

The Pret cornichon crisis Plus: Sadiq Khan vs TikTok, Whole Foods vs Queensway Market, and the curious row over a Labour mayoral candidate's purchase of an ex-council flat.

Possibly the most chaotic newsletter I’ve published. Some people would suggest splitting the story about Pret sandwiches from the lengthy piece at the end about a council house sale to a Labour mayoral candidate. They are cowards. www.londoncentric.media/p/pret-corni...

I assume they refer to user input only, a UI would still show images or diagrams. Directly interacting with such output by pointing is crucial for UX. We learned to point at things as babies before we learned language.
