Last week, we learned of an online ‘rape academy’, where men across the world are not only drugging their wives and partners and subjecting them to sexual violence, but also recording and sharing it.

There are many reasons why survivors of sexual violence and abuse don't report it.
Those who do report face challenges in navigating a criminal justice system that is not fit for purpose.
Whether you report or not, we believe you.
We will listen to you.
We are here for you 💜

"Self-swab 'rape kits'" have caused concern as a result of issues in regards to giving survivor's false security on the 'evidence' collected.
@rapecrisis.bsky.social have published a statement which you can read here: rapecrisis.org.uk/news/rcews-u...

Important update on self-swab "rape kits".
The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) have stated that self-swab "rape kits" are not consistent with trauma-informed, survivor-centred practice, nor do they support effective policing outcomes. We, Rape Crisis England & Wales, agree.
Chief Constable Sarah Crew, NPCC Lead for Adult Sexual Offences, said: "Asking victims to collect intimate evidence alone, at a moment of crisis, places an unfair burden on them and risks both their wellbeing and the integrity of any investigation. These kits can create false expectations, lead to re‑traumatisation and reduce trust in statutory services. Our national policing position is clear: forensic evidence gathered without continuity, control or clinical oversight is at high risk of being challenged in court and may ultimately be unusable."
Ciara Bergman, CEO of Rape Crisis England & Wales, said: "Rape and sexual abuse are acutely traumatic experiences and every year, thousands of survivors reach out to us for support – very often, for the first time. When they take that first crucial step, they must be believed, and they need access to specialist services which treat them ethically and restore dignity and choice to them."
We welcome the national policing position on the use of self-swab ‘rape kits’ in unregulated environments.
