I would rather recommend checking out Flatpak along with Flathub.org.
I've had great success using them as an alternative to the store.

All valid points. Having had similar suspend issues previously on my Nvidia equipped machine the solution was to switch to the proprietary drivers (my other AMD machine has no such issues).
And since I do my whole system config via Ansible I tend to forget about how abysmal the store is.

idk, for me the lack of drastic changes but rather a steady stream of compounding improvements over the years has been welcomed.
And most of those have been under the hood (kernel, systemd, wayland etc).
But if you want true visual evolution something like Sway (via Hyprland) would do it.
a giant horse that weighs 3200 lbs named Brooklyn Supreme and two suit wearing assholes who toured the US charging money just to gaze upon him
look at this fuckin horse, how do you weigh 3200 lbs and let these two fucking nerds charge 10 cents just to look upon you. eat them! claim your destiny!

We don’t talk enough about the importance of standard components in a greener economy. Engineers always say “but *our* design for battery/connector/module is 2% better than a standard one”, missing the point that it’s far worse for repair, reuse, recycling & minimising extra “stuff”. It’s maddening.
I am really missing the edit feature from Mastodon....
A screenshot of the Icelandic met office webpage and all of its warnings
Flying back to Icelandn before holidays and the meet-office's webpage doesn't disappoint!
- Red warning volcanic eruption
- Red warning ice river dams
- Red warning glacial river run
- Orange warning 40m/s gusts in the west
- Yellow warning for the rest of the country
Ahh home sweet home 😌
Ah well then I'll live with it. Thanks for clearing it up for me!
Few things can beat a real Yule tree 🎄
Curious to know if the trunk is being kept submerged in enough water?
Once air gets into it, the tree starts shedding needles at an accelerated rate (the same happens if the trunk isn't cleaned so that the tree can "drink").
Screenshot of the documentation stating: "Note: When you import an APK into Android Studio, the IDE creates a new project in your home directory under ApkProjects/ and makes a local copy of the target APK there. The SMALI files are stored in the smali/out/ folder within the new project folder."
Out of curiosity (and a longing for my home directory to be less cluttered) would anyone know if there are environment variables that can guide Android Studio to where these files APK analysis project should be placed?
Perhaps @tornorbye.bsky.social knows?

Quickly checked out if this was possible to do via adb and turns out, yes!
Doesn't seem to universally work though. My Pixel 6a doesn't accept the modified value, but various Samsung's and Motorola's I have laying around did.
Example usage of embedding SQLite inside a Postgres database table.
Just when I thought I've seen it all, a PostgreSQL extension shows up that allows you to embed a SQLite database inside a table. github.com/frectonz/pgl...
Sure, the UI layer has changed, but everything else is pretty much the same.
In no particular order, the knowledge of all these (and more) is still relevant for any non-trivial apps:
packaging, services, file system, permissions, DI, testing, background work, intent system, Gradle etc.
It's easy to think every #dev should maintain a blog, contribute to open source and have multiple side projects on the go.
You can be passionate about tech without doing any of those things.

Fun fact: If someone quotes a post of yours in a way that is unwelcome (as is commonplace on Twitter/X) there is a tool to combat the unwanted attention. Simply click the three dot menu on the quote post & click "Detach quote". This removes your post from their quote post. Useful to know, do share!
