Government House Leader Steve Clark has presented a motion to whip the budget measures bill through the legislature without committee hearings, including the section that will eviscerate Ontario’s freedom of information laws. Many in this government find journalists and their insistence on factual answers annoying, fine. But the events of the last few days are a reminder that a culture of insularity and secrecy is bad for governments, and Tories might want to ask whether leaning into that dysfunction is really what they need right now.

I just heard a woman tell us in detail how her husband who she supported in the hospital for a week came home and started calling her names and swearing at her, which isn’t unusual for him, but by the end she blamed herself for it???

I mean I’m glad they’re in this group therapy and I know my issues are still real but being constantly immersed in these stories sucks too.

I think my group therapy is unhealthy for me. I’m constantly listening to stories of people who are either discussing family being verbally abusive towards them or in other cases telling stories where they’re clearly verbally abusive to others and I’m gaining very little in the process.
