Im extremely lucky because I've found a series of things that work to hit my switches without setting off alarm bells and being harmful. If I had been labeled a drug addict I likely would not have access to the things that make it possible to not be a drug addict, meds that work.

This is why for some people, you will never treat a substance addiction unless you find a non-intoxicating replacement for what it does for them. For me, the trauma will always hurt and it will hurt physically and mentally so it must be treated.

Humans, like computers, are a series of transistors. At least neurologically, our brains are just a bunch of here/not here receptors for substances that tell us what we should feel. We will literally turn off every receptor and die trying to reach the one that ails us
