They not only won’t cancel; they’ve handed the entire event over to the fascists.

Stephen Miller and Pete Hegseth are sitting at CBS’ table.

FCC’s Brendan Carr has actually been invited, while he’s trying to take away press freedoms.

Power without accountability: The Palantir manifesto The problems with our tech philosopher kings

New, from me: Take the Palantir manifesto seriously, if not literally.
It reveals that our tech philosopher kings want public money, but without public accountability. This creates a dilemma for governments unaligned with its techno-fascist vision. 🧵

A digital illustration done in simple contour lines and rough pencil coloring on neutral tinted paper background of a woman reclining on a surface in a faint. Seen from a foreshortened angle from her knees and feet. She’s laying on one hip with her torso twisting to supine. The back of one hand lays across her forehead and the other is held limply on her ribs. Her head is back and her red curls spread out on the ground around her. She’s wearing a white, voluminous and old fashioned night dress. Orange lettering in an Art Nouveau style to the right reads ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

Comic. [Person and person with white hat facing two boxes stacked with $80 price tag and sale tag on each box.] PERSON 1: They want $80 for this? I could make one myself for $10 in parts, an hour of work, a trip to the hardware store, another $30 in parts, another few hours of work, two more trips to the store for $20 more in parts, another hour of work to redo the first hour of work because I messed up, and $80 to buy this when the one I made breaks.

"The GOP is slashing NSF & NEH grants; imposing bans on books, courses and lecture topics; punishing student protesters; blocking foreign students; waging endless lawsuits on colleges and venerating the grifter who created the Professor Watchlist. I wonder why more professors aren't voting GOP?"

"The effort comes in response to longstanding criticism that Harvard’s faculty leans overwhelmingly liberal."

Golly, I wonder why faculties tend to be overwhelmingly liberal? Are liberals more drawn to teaching? Have conservatives been engaged in a long war on science and knowledge? WHO KNOWS?

Yes on mass-market (they fit my shelves better)!

But also: the existing price point of Stars Die was under $18CAD - I don't think it was too much. The books are good quality & the contents are fantastic.
Another $6 or so would not be outrageous, imo. (Though of course cheaper lets me buy more ;-)

Screenshot from the 1992 Republicans party platform:

Imagine the America we could create if all parents taught their children the importance of honesty, work, responsibility, and respect for others. We would have less violence in our homes and streets; less illegal drug use; fewer teen pregnancies forcing girls and boys to be adults before they have graduated from high school. Instead, we would have an America of families, friends, and communities that care about one another.

I am procrastinating writing, so I looked it up, and it’s literally in the official Republican Party Platform in 1992! At the front!

Does anybody remember when teen pregnancy was a huge boogeyman of the right? They had all these purity dances and whatnot?

Pepperidge Farms remembers.
