Post-Conquest kings were styled 'x, son of y'. This became a problem after 1327 when a third consecutive Edward became king, so people began to distinguish them as first, second and third.

When Angela Rayner underpaid £40,000 in stamp duty, Richard Tice said it was "morally completely indefensible” and she should resign if she had “any moral decency”.

Now we learn he set up four shell companies that let him avoid paying £100,000 he owed in tax and to then transfer the cash to Reform

With Bayeux Tapestry mania mounting, I thought it worth pointing out that my book about the Norman Conquest begins with a description of the famous embroidery and explains why it's uniquely important. You can read it for free here: shorturl.at/vjjay

Once in a blue moon I discover something worthy of an academic paper - in this case, a redating of the seizure of Rochester Castle by the Magna Carta rebels in 1215.

Tomorrow's reading will be from the Book of Armaments.

'Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy."'

This is a complete fabrication. The linked study does not find this nor does it purport to find this nor does it even attempt to find anything like this nor does it involve collecting or analyzing any data whatsoever about children in households that used voice commands.

If one of my party's recent prime ministers had redecorated the Number 10 flat in a way that ended up involving TWO separate inquiries and a Wikipedia page, I would simply not have put out a press release confirming that the current prime minister had spent less than the allowance he was given.

The £100,000 fix for Britain's big money problem Farage’s mega donors have exposed the fatal flaw in Starmer's Elections Bill. Capping all political donations would be simple, popular - and transformative.

‘Ben Delo shows how easily Labour’s curbs on foreign money can be circumvented.

Starmer needs to put the integrity of British democracy first and use his Elections Bill as what it is: a once-in-a-generation opportunity to take big money out of politics’

It is absolutely incredible that HMRC thought (and still thinks) that it is acceptable to tell every sole trader in the country that they have to file digitally, but that HMRC isn't providing any means to do, that you probably need to get some software from somewhere, and that it sucks to be you.

The Telegraph just gave a convicted criminal a two-page spread to explain why he's pumping £4 million into Reform UK. They tucked his criminal record away in the small print. So as a former financial crime specialist I’ll do their job for them👇
