Work in progress: sars-2 clearly increases risk of tuberculosis activation in central Ontario, on a timeline that is consistent with T cell injury. It does not impact risk of non tuberculous mycobacterial infections

Oh, wait... 👀
why the hell would we put windows 11 in space
I've seen ChatGPT language for sections in documents I'm working on, and I honestly hate it.
The Artemis II launch reminded me, like I'm sure it did for many, of the fatal Challenger disaster, and that safety should never be sidelined. As practising scientists we need to not forget this story.

...To me this is the difference between how trained scientists/engineers deal with problems vs. politicians. We absolutely need more of this energy in every aspect of our lives. Well done NASA.
Yesterday when NASA ppl were being interviewed, one reporter asked about the public loudspeaker not working and I was struck by the answer. The NASA official said "That's news to me, thank you for that, we will look into it". No but covering, just honest interest in fixing the problem... 1/2
How embarrassing.
Delighted to see this collaborative work out on the orientation of NHCs on surfaces. More complicated than thiols, but you CAN control upright vs. flat lying by control over sterics at the N substituents (bulkier=upright) and backbone, if you destabilize flat-lying.

I don't see this said enough: the widespread use of generative AI is not only making our jobs as educators harder logistically, but also emotionally. It is genuinely sad to be suspicious of students when you have spent so much time building a pedagogy based on trust and not being a cop. It sucks.
Public health experts call for stricter glyphosate regulation. Researchers cite ‘compelling evidence’ that glyphosate can cause cancer. by Delger Erdenesanaa. A tractor sprays pesticide across a green field.
A group of 17 leading public health researchers and advocates from the US, Canada, and Europe are calling on regulators around the world to treat the widely used herbicide glyphosate as hazardous and limit or eliminate its use to protect public health: cen.acs.org/food/agricul...

Big Tech leaders will talk about protecting “innovation” and “entrepreneurship,” but what they really want to do is protect is themselves.

The immune system going rogue and attacking healthy tissue seems to behind some cases of long covid, a discovery that could open doors towards treatments
Hope you've woken up to good news!
Naomi Klein is author of "No logo", "The Shock Doctrine", "End Times Fascism" and "No is not enough". Of course her husband is pretty awesome too, but I'm a huge NK fan and am really excited for the progressive movement right now.
So for my friends who don't follow Canadian politics, the New Democratic party just chose Avi Lewis as their leader. That means the Badass Dr. Naomi Klein could be our first lady. I am pretty pumped about these two amazing humans being involved in Can politics.

stop making sense Chemjobber!
Afroman, the hero we didn't know we needed.
The real theme of the modern age is "Nobody Wants This". AI, ICE in airports, ICE in general, the Iran War, data centers sending actual cities wiht people into blackouts -- "nobody" wants this. And yet here we are.
and yes fellow Canadians, it's an Impact Chair application, so not officially for me, but I'm excited to bring in a great researcher to Queen's and C2MCI
Super excited to be part of this new international collaboration!
AI doesn't reduce our workload. We need to be thoughtful about how we use this new tool. I would ask those who are my age and older–has email reduced your work? Has zoom reduced our workload? I would argue neither have.

One crucial aspect of using these AI tools is that you are sharing information with them. If this information is confidential/privileged, this is seriously problematic.
The continued push for AI in every aspect of work ignores the true problem, which is pervasive overwork.
The process that led to the Holocaust didn't start with killing people.
First it made them non-people.
Then it killed them.
but thank you for that gif.... it will haunt me! ;-)
that's with a spam filter.....and most are "important". My take: it requires WAY too many emails to get anything done; people need to stop copying me on things they are handling; and I am doing too many things. Also email is horrible. It is too easy to fire one off.....
