The Scotsmen with those lovely accents at @2broad2deeppod.bsky.social tackle one of my personal Top 5 NAs!
And in quite a bit of depth!
One of the best page turners the range produced, IMO.
And it helps it's a sequel to my favourite DW story ๐

We had this very chat after recording the last episode of maybe doing one just wholy on the VNA ones!
They're a good slice to whet the appetite, and maybe abway to get folk into new books if we're struggling for the main TV show for the foreseeable!
Coming up next from @thedwshow.net List Makers is Top 5 "Prequels" - what stories would be want to see a prequels to?
Any predictions or ideas?!

The Silurians take Glasgow!
As general as the illustrations are of Glasgow under their control, I like to think the left-hand building is the old College building (or People Make Glasgow building!)

I don't seem to hold this one in the same regard that others do. I felt it was trying very hard but I kept being distracted by other things
It's the best of all of the books' attempts to do an alt universe story, full of well thought out details and disturbing asides, like the alt-Doctor being Big Brother. But Lord I find alt-universe stories dull. Eyepatches all round and zero stakes. It probably deserves love, but gets meh.
Doctor Who: The New Adventures โ Blood Heat by Jim Mortimore, cover by Jeff Cummins: a Silurian rides a Tyrannosaur through ruined jungle London, overgrown St Paulโs in background and TARDIS in foreground. With added RROAR!
One of the most meaty, dramatic and shocking New Adventures. Itโs brilliant!
But this NA really earns being called โgrimโ.
Yet itโs so exciting, it has three or four separate nerve-wracking climaxes you canโt see how they can get out of
And finishes on the grimmest of the lot
Back in the day this was one of my most anticipated NAs, as The Silurians is my favourite DW story (& The Cave Monsters probably my favourite Target novel).
Thought it was brilliant then. Re-read it 2 years ago & couldn't put it down; it's a proper page turner.
I love the concept of the /1

Something to tide over with until we have some new old Who next month...
Absolutely stunning news - to have so many episodes from a story with so few copies is a miracle!
If you love missing Doctor Who as much as me, go and support Film is Fabulous if you can - they have done, and are doing tremendous work ๐

As we say, there's always a book which someone will love here! Incidentally, where would you place the Wheel in Space being set? ๐
Chaps from @2broad2deeppod.bsky.social tackle a top 10 NA IMO! I love Iceberg!
Clearly more than they did๐
I'm the type of fan who loves the weaving together of Cyber-history Banks does, & it all made sense to me!
Slow burn for Dr means fun times in an interesting setup.
And a lovely cover!

Fun fact - Gavin from the band Camera Obscura is a member of the Glasgow Who Society! ๐ธ
Didnโt notice! Probably too late! Whoops! Just in case:
The bookโs strength (raises David Banks metal fist) is the horror of Cybermen.
Of the three main characters, Rubyโs a memorable companion, but both the Doctor and General Pamela Cutler suffer from the structure.
Probably in my top 10!
I love the straight forward adventure here.
The setting is perfect, & some genuinely creepy moments with the Cybermen.
Ruby is great.
The 7th Doctor feels like his TV self for the first time in a while.
Just so many fun Doctor Who moments to enjoy!
Love it!

What a fun @2broad2deeppod.bsky.social on Birthright!
Agreed with almost all their points, apart from on Muldwych!
I certainly remember even at the time the multiple "CyberSpace" endings in the NAs was getting criticism.
But yes, a very good book in a run of great NAs!
On top of the book, we have a brief discussion on the podcast about the Benny Summerfield audio adaption ๐
