Normally I’m a one ep per day person for all shows but this one I just inhaled, haha.
PS I’m clearly a sucker for female-centric “getting the fictional band together” shows. I also really enjoyed ‘We Are Lady Parts’. 😂

Ah interesting! Was hoping it would quote Sally W directly but I could see how they would have gone that way and not made it too obvious, so it’s a bit of a reveal for some in S2.
Ah, I’ll be interested to see if you can find it!
Perhaps it will be made clearer either way on second series (which I’m so glad to see is happening). I try not to binge shows but think I watched it all within two days, but then I’ve had some spare time… 😉
Yeah, I found this Verge piece from yesterday much more clear-eyed about LLMs/so-called AI, amongst other things:
www.theverge.com/tldr/915176/...
Didn’t pick up anything that indicated that - you’d think there’d be at least one concrete reference during any of their meetings.
I just saw two middle aged people with a fractious work relationship, where Holly felt empowered to speak up even more once her job was no longer on the line. 🤷♂️
Oh fuck off with this bullshit. The so-called “AI race” is an empty bubble pushed by digital snake oil dealers.
GenAI/LLMs are absolute dead-end tech in desperate search of a purpose. Unlike tech that people historically actually want to adopt/pay for, the paying market for slop-gen is near zero.
Yep. The only people who want Apple to “catch up” on this irrelevant bullshit are their brain-wormed FOMO investors, and the moronic/complicit so-called “journalists” producing this sort of crap.
Great piece, just the right amount of depth, really enjoyed it. I played Chuckie Egg on Speccy and C64 back in the day - one of those 8-bit games that will be lodged in my brain til the last, I suspect. 😉
Ex-fencers of the world unite! 🤺
PS That tracking tech looks excellent. 😎
A few years back even my teen kids stopped caring about any of the then-latest Avengers movies and honestly it was such a relief.
Even my posting this is an aberration - generally I see the word “Avengers” and just skip right past because really… 😴 🤷♂️
I also need a Mastodon version of this.
"I was there for the last great joke fight youngster. Absurdists to the left, snark to the right. The guy next to me was cancelled by a shit-take neither of us saw coming, but we kept on." 😂🤣
My second film for today was a rewatch of the superb Heart of Neon documentary.

Another day, another old subbed Japanese movie. This time it's Wandering Ginza Butterfly (1972), featuring the queen of the ice-cold yet alluring death stare, Meiko Kaji.

Just terrible. We regularly drive a couple of suburbs to Vanilla as our “regular” to get cakes, they really are fabulous, and that area is such a community hub. 😞
When anyone does violence like that against a person, or an animal, fuckers should get life, no parole, no “mitigating circumstances”.
Haha, guilty as charged! 🤪😂
(Still playing the games too: have the 8- and 16-bit classics on the Llamasoft history compilation for Switch, as well as Tempest 4000, Akka Arrh and I Robot on that console, plus Gridrunner, Goat Up, Moose Life and Polybius on PS4. Psychedelic fun abounds!)
Once again I find myself delving into the cinematic past for some Saturday night entertainment; this time all the way back to 1955 for the classic Ealing comedy, 'The Ladykillers'.

Agreed! I am definitely curating more here for the good stuff, which doesn’t mean I’m ignoring the bad entirely, but I’d rather go looking when in the mood to cope, rather than getting the fire hose every time I log on. 😉
The latter is less unlikely than you think, haha. e.g. kinky.business,
And I totally agree, finding people on a genuinely decentralised platform is a definite challenge.
I guess I’m happy in a smaller niche environment at times, hell I’m still active on the phpBB Llamasoft forum I joined in 2002.
Cheers Robyn! Realised I needed an online space curated 95% as a source of joy, rather than despair.
It still takes work to maintain that state, but I find it worth it. 😊
(And I try to do that here too, but it’s harder as bsky’s tools are still less flexible. Hopefully that will improve!)
The downside is you’re never talking to “the whole world” like here, but the upside is that same thing. Everything feels a bit more personal.
Sadly I think this place will go wrong cos commercial, whereas Mastodon will never rule but also never die, as it belongs to no one person or organisation.
I’ve found it interesting but others’ mileage clearly varies, cos comparatively it’s not mega popular (and maybe never will be) but when I dual post I get much the same engagement and convo there with about 400 followers as I do with 1500 here.
I found the best way to find more good folk was looking at who the people I was following were following, which was what I did here to start too.
I don’t really get why people find feeds hard, maybe cos I only use my main and apart from that follow hashtags for things, same as here.
Yeah the multiple servers thing means it’s definitely harder to find “your people” to start with, but it’s a time thing in my experience. Most of my mutuals were UK peeps to start with, but over time I found good folk from Melbourne Sydney and. Canberra. Some nice US folk too.
I’ve found myself reacquainting with Mastodon the last couple of days. The opposite of doomscrolling, cos I’ve managed to curate a feed that’s mostly weird music, weird art, retro video games, some books and movies, and photos of rabbits, moss and long-abandoned military vehicles. Quite soothing.
“CEO says…” is not journalism, it’s marketing. 🤷♂️🙄
Yeah, def scary... If I hear a song I like I need to know more about the artist, background etc. but not all are like that, so...
If any genre could be made by GenAI chewing up pre-existing stuff then regurgitating the resulting aural slop in endless variations, I guess it's cafe chill music... 😬
What's your favourite bible verse?
(Wrong answers only.)
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
My trusty black Nintendo DS Lite playing Professor Layton and the Curious Village. Top screen shows a mostly blue-white image of Professor Layton and Luke amongst random people about to board a train at a crowded station. Bottom screen shows the Professor Layton logo and the words, "To Be Continued..."
Returned to my replay of #ProfessorLayton and the Curious Village started last year... only to find I'd left it on the second-last chapter and should have pushed on to the finish back then.
So a couple of hours' puzzling tonight, and the mystery of St. Mystere is a mystery no more... 😉

Fark. Maybe time to disown him. 🤷♂️
