Effective 2025 federal tax rates paid by these corporations:

Alphabet: 8.01%
AT&T: 4.6%
Meta: 3.57%
General Motors: 3.09%
Amazon: 1.37%
Exxon Mobil: 1.31%
Disney: -1.57%
CVS Health: -3.88%

Income tax rate paid by the typical American: 14.5%

This is what a rigged system looks like.

But is that true? I imagine (or more hope) that the changing electorate are more amenable than we think.

(Must "do my own research" 😁)

If France can adopt a new currency, replacing the oldest continously used one (franc), so can the UK*

*Franc dates from 1360, the first "pound" from 1489

That was a joke?

(joke)

(or was it?)

Barely. I suggest the UK has do do a lot more PR to make us more favorable.

I always thought they must have had short swords in those days.

Until Russians grow a backbone and stand up for themselves, they will all be held culpable in protecting that murderous autocrat.

Yeah, but it often takes more. In this case the socialists did not contest seats so Tisza had a clearer run.

With their electoral system and the gerrymandering that is in place, Tiza will need to win by high teens to secure power.

Why do the biggest English-speaking nations so singularly fail to understand what the EU is?

I wonder is it connected with the English language media?

Here's hoping that track record continues into Hungary this Sunday.

I love James but sometimes he just gets into an argument which can play into the interviewee's hands.

Sometimes, when it's impossible to "defeat" a true believer, it's best just to just let them expose themselves.

That woman (forgot her name) has been invited onto his show before. He likes jousting with her. He knows she is a true believer and can never be persuaded that her messiah is wrong

He does a good job of exposing her ludicrousness to all sane people listening

I think James would never invite her on

In all fairness, Lewis is doing a bang-up job.

I take your point re differences in approach vis a vis common vs civil law. But all regs should be clear as possible from the outset

And anyway no marmalade, except the most rubbish, will be called 'citrus marmalade'. It will be 'orange marmalade' or 'lime marmalade' Like it is now.

Yeah. In Italy 'marmellata' simply means, what English speakers know as, jam, including all fruit, including orange, lime or lemon.

One needs to be more specific as to what sort of jam.

Remarkably un-windy here in Wicklow (town) (at 19.30). Perhaps we are being protected, yet again, by the ever protective Ballyguile Hill.

Yeah sorry. Those figures should, respectively, be <10% and >75%.

Come back when you (UK) are serious

"Going to the moon" is what was done in 1969.

Pay some proper respect (BBC R4 Today, I'm looking at you)

Or going to London and just M25ing it...

2 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

NO. IT'S NOT GOING TO THE MOON.

It's like going to Cork city and just circulating around the Jack Lynch tunnel.

Also, he might have added that Brexit is continuing to, and will always, do deep damage to the economy.

But I hope that this ever greater emphasis on the damage of Brexit is part of a strategy to eventually lead to a widely held acceptance by UK voters: the UK must apply for admission to the EU

From the Guardian:

"Australia will be left with no submarines if it abandons Aukus, senior defence official warns
Malcolm Turnbull asks defence department official what Australia would do if the promised Virginia-class and Aukus-class submarines don’t arrive"

From the Guardian: "Australia will be left with no submarines if it abandons Aukus, senior defence official warns Malcolm Turnbull asks defence department official what Australia would do if the promised Virginia-class and Aukus-class submarines don’t arrive"

If Australia comes back to France for their submarines, will they be told to F**k Right Off?

There is so much wrong with this... Will the UK ever grow up?

3 weeks ago 1 0 0 0

Well that's debatable. And one I won't debate now.

However one thing does get on my goat is calling our country "Republic of Ireland"

It's not, it's Ireland. Nó más i nGaeilge atá tú ag labhairt, Éire.

Personally I like the North Atlantic Archipelago.

But on the other hand I'm not too fussed about the *geographic* term of "British Isles"
