A judge in Vermont has ordered Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk immediately released from ICE detention. Öztürk has been held in a notorious prison in Louisiana. She still faces the threat of deportation, apparently in retaliation for co-authoring a piece for her student newspaper about Gaza.

This tool was built to explain how power moves even under dictatorships. The central tenet is that like an upside-down triangle, power can be unstable. It naturally topples over without anything supporting it. To prevent that, power relies on pillars of support to keep it upright. … Describing the pillars of support, Gene Sharp wrote: ‘By themselves, rulers cannot collect taxes, enforce repressive laws and regulations, keep trains running on time, prepare national budgets, direct traffic, manage ports, print money, repair roads, keep markets supplied with food, make steel, build rockets, train the police and army, issue postage stamps or even milk a cow. Apply said rubric to any other group under attack right now for their lived realities.

When people break the law, and their actions are righteous and appropriate, we should applaud them. When people abide by or enforce the law, and their actions are repugnant, we should condemn them. We should never pretend the law is a moral dividing line.
An autism "registry" culled from private medical records could potentially violate federal privacy laws and runs the risk of abuse.
It also harkens back to a time when disabled people were labeled, segregated, and excluded. We won't go back.
In my grad union, we organized an access needs article. It included eliminating required medical documentation.
The admin rejected our proposals at every turn.
Now, RFK, Jr. wants to create a registry of Autistic people.
That required documentation makes people less safe.

I'm quite comfortable with abolishing deportations and giving every immigrant and refugee a home and food and education and a job and safety, and if you object on the basis that we don't give citizens those things, my answer is simply that we should be giving those things already.
What it should say: everyone has knowledge. Everyone asks questions.
No kings protest in Binghamton NY 🇺🇲 this is what democracy looks like. Love my community in Broome county NY.
A few hundred people in Binghamton came out to today and collectively said no to fascism.
Two observations:
1. So many people driving by cheered & honked in solidarity.
2. The crowd skewed older (60+).
Legacy media might not cover this, but collective dissent is happening across the country.
