A close up of Brown Argonaut (Argonauta hians) in blackwater. It is mostly in its wavy "shell". The only parts visible are is its eye with an orange iris, part of its arms with are facing sucker side out, a small part of its head and its siphon.

The jellyfish has a dark orange bell and light orange arms. The argonaut has a wavy, spiral eggcase that it wears like a shell. The egg case is a offwhite with black or grey on the outer rim. The argonaut itself is mostly in the egg case but you can see its head and part of its arms sticking out of the egg case. Its arms are sucker side out, and it has a bright orange eye with a round black pupil.

They are also called paper nautiluses, although nautiluses are actually named after argonauts.

Juvenile argonauts will also hitchhike on jellyfish.
