Finland passes law to block migrants crossing from Russia Finland's parliament passed a law on Friday granting border guards the power to block asylum seekers crossing from Russia, after more than 1,300 people arrived in the country, forcing Helsinki to close its border.

Finland has also put in place an exceptional emergency law that allows it to reject asylum applications from migrants crossing its closed eastern border with Russia and to send them back.

@observeruk.bsky.social mentions findings of the report I coauthored in collaboration with @britishfuture.bsky.social on public attitudes on international students in the UK.

It was exciting to work with @britishfuture.bsky.social @heather-rolfe.bsky.social on this report. Even amidst the polarized migration debate, most of the public recognizes the importance of international students and opposes reducing their numbers, despite comprising 40% of net migration in the UK
