Join the crew from Hackney Night Shelter tomorrow at the National Housing Demo!
Rough sleeping has reached a record high, with 4,793 people recorded in a single night in England. Thousands more people aren't included in these figures who are also facing homelessness.
Research has found that support systems for victim-survivors can fail to recognise gambling-related domestic abuse.
And a big thanks to our amazing volunteers who helped keep the shelter open over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend! 👏
We've been able to accommodate some of these people leaving winter shelters but there is a dire need for more services and support for people experiencing homelessness, with rough sleeping recently reaching a record high.
While many winter night shelters are closing up as they don't have the resources to run for longer, Hackney Night Shelter is one of very few year-round night shelters.
And we welcomed lots of new guests into the shelter including a man who arrived today - he was facing homelessness after a relationship breakdown.
He also said there was a part of him that was very sad to leave the shelter as he found it to be a healing place at a time when he very much needed it.
We were pleased to see three more guests also move on to longer term housing in the past few days.
🧵 Happy Friday from Hackney Night Shelter! 🌞Some recent news: one guest moved on positively to supported accommodation. He left these kind words "it was amazing staying here. everyone was respectful and welcoming"

When reflecting on her experience at the shelter she said "it is safe, clean, the staff and volunteers are familiar and the food is good" and said the best thing about her stay was meeting new people from different countries.
