I built a smart controller for mine and it is very comfortable. Modern condensation oil boilers are extremely efficient. But indeed the environmental benefit is important. You need to afford it. 9k will not cut it for us.

I filled my tank at 70p/l and we pay c.20p/KWh standing charge is .62/day. That's how we are treated by electricity companies... They want to raise to 25p and 57p.

Today, can't beat our combi oil boiler in running costs by miles. But hopefully we can get help for the tank and solar thermal... And maybe they will stop pounding us with ridiculous electricity bills.

You could probably get away with less for sure. I am first installing a buffer tank and a solar collector or panel and PVs. That's the only way it can start to reduce oil use. FYI my boiler is 26KW and it struggles at times. Even with £9K the switch cannot be viable financially for 25 years.

Without a strong electricity price reduction, I can't see myself investing. That's why I am setting up solar thermal and PV to top up. Maybe then it works.

I would say that the cost of living here is 30-50% more expensive than on the mainland and probably even more than southern England. I am not surprised that most people do not realise it. Eg Octopus would refuse to put things like an EV charger here. I know they are our supplier.

That's what is fitted as standard in the local housing association. We were in a 2.5 bedroom semi. But although we produce a lot of electricity on the isle of Lewis we are charged way more than on the mainland and I don't know where you live but the weather is not the same everywhere...

Just to mention that until last year I had a heat pump in the former house. 11KW and still it needed the immersion heater which is a backup in theory but not in practice for these Mitsubishi. The bills were dear for a house kept between 16 and 19°

Where? I tend to add contingency with trade people. I also have to add delivery to it. I don't know on top of the heat pump you need to add radiators the pipework and the guys working. Sorry octopus is not sending people on the isle of Lewis. And yes you need c. 10kw pump here

That's what relatively modern heat pumps cost. Maybe a Mitsubishi can be cheap but honestly I would not find the plumbers to do such a job here in this price range.
