The FCC banned the import of foreign routers. Adafruit has a good guide on what you can do: repurpose older routers or other spare hardware, build a DIY router using a Raspberry Pi, or install open-source firmware such as OpenWRT on compatible devices.

In Idaho, a trans person can be sentenced to up to five years in prison if convicted of felony using-the-restroom.

By comparison, simple assault is charged as a misdemeanor (up to six months in jail), and 2 DUI convictions gets you 10 days in jail in Idaho.

Google API Keys Weren't Secrets. But then Gemini Changed the Rules. ◆ Truffle Security Co. Google spent over a decade telling developers that Google API keys (like those used in Maps, Firebase, etc.) are not secrets. But that's no longer true.

This is such a great example of how a technology implemented one way is assumed to work in another way by (probably) an entirely different team

It's really important to question even basic assumptions when designing things like APIs

Code vs. Software: The Vocabulary I Rely On When Talking About AI‑Assisted Development I spend a lot of my time explaining technology to people who have fundamentally different ideas of software and code. From engineers deep in the implementation details, to leaders trying to…

I wrote up a blog post about my thoughts on the definitions of the words "#code" and "#software", and how these terms are often used interchangeably, yet they actually have distinct definitions.

Here is my attempt to add clarity: www.avinzarlez.com/blog/code-vs...

An Autopsy of AI-Generated 3D Slop: Why eCommerce brands need the human touch. Thinking of using AI for your Shopify 3D models? Read this first. We compare AI-generated 3D 'slop' vs. handcrafted models to show why the human touch is very much required to attain positive ROI.

This is indicative of a mindset which essentially says "there can be no such thing as scholarship or intelligence when it comes from a group I've been conditioned to demonize" and we'd all be better off if we realized these people are simply like this. There's nothing to persuade here, it's bigotry.

Making Wolfram Tech Available as a Foundation Tool for LLM Systems Wolfram's Foundation Tool supplements LLM foundation models with deep computation and precise knowledge. CAG (computation-augmented generation) underlies multiple access methods.

Integrating Wolfram's resources into LLM systems is a significant advancement for agents to provide accurate and reliable answers. By utilizing Wolfram's resources, LLMs can offer more precise and relevant responses and not just made up random slop.

A Nationwide Book Ban Bill Has Been Introduced in the House of Representatives Hours after the State of the Union address, House republicans introduced legislation banning LGBTQ+ books from public schools nationwide.

Being LGBTQIA is not an "adult" topic and should not be hidden from kids. Access to diverse narratives is vital for understanding and acceptance, and excluding books fosters misinformation and stigma. Supporting inclusive education is crucial for future generations.

New York sues Valve for enabling "illegal gambling" with loot boxes The ability to resell Steam items for real value is key to the state's case.

I think way too many people think of loot boxes are just like a Gachapon, and not how they actually work behind the scenes. This isn't a regulated random but fair slot machine, they are programmed specifically to in the most addicting way, and real currency gambling.

Reframing “Open Source AI” with Meredith Whittaker: AI Impact Summit 2026
Reframing “Open Source AI” with Meredith Whittaker: AI Impact Summit 2026 What does openness even mean in our LLM and tech monopoly era? Tech companies tout that their products are “open source” to seem approachable, collaborative, and open to feedback, even when that…

I really love the way Meredith talks about the issues here. Not fear mongering, but addressing the security concerns of the moment:
