Half of older adults struggle with sleep.
Yet many are still being prescribed sleeping medications that can cause confusion, falls, even memory problems.
So why aren’t we talking more openly about cannabis?

This study highlights the potential of CBMPs as an alternative to opioid treatment.
(I've seen this work for years in primary care clinic.)

Sadly, there are still some doctors who I deal with that think this movie is a documentary...

The medical journal TheLancet comes out against drug criminalization in favor of harm reduction.

When they piloted reimbursing medical #cannabis in Worker's Compensation,
'patients reported meaningful reductions in pain, improvement in function, increased quality of life, and psychosocial stability...A modest reduction in opioid use was observed"

My mother Betsy, at age 95 (doing great!), gets to see the 18th book published by either her husband (Dr. Lester Grinspoon -- 11 books), her son @DrFunkySpoon (David Grinspoon -- he has 4 awesome books), or me -- this is my third: "Aging Well with Cannabis and CBD" out on 5/5/26.

It’s a common idea in addiction medicine, but it doesn’t reflect reality.
Most people who use substances don’t become addicted. Some even benefit. At the same time, misuse can be devastating.
Both are true.

It is excruciating as a primary care doctor to see awful diseases, which we have successfully controlled for a century, rear back due to the idiotic, ignorant policies of the Trump Administration, especially the most brainless of all, anti-vaxxer RFJ Jr.

We see the tragic effects of the "novel psychoactive molecules" in the addiction clinic I work at. It is an unregulated disaster (which, IMHO, would be better if we decriminalized drugs...).

This is a great interview with Dr. Staci Gruber in USA Today

This is an amazing article -- my brother David @drfunkyspoon.bsky.social is the scientist who is interviewed; he injects some bad needed idealism into this entire issue.

Physicians and nurses urgently need to learn more specific information about medical #cannabis to advise patients so patients don't have to rely on Budtenders (who, unsuprisingly, per this study, give very inaccurate (and with pregnancy, dangerous) advice!

In many ways, #alcohol is the most dangerous drug of all. Please see my blog:

It sounds like they are having a lot of success with #MDMA in Australia for #PTSD

I agree that many people are undereducated about the potential harms of #cannabis (addiction, teens, pregnancy, mental health, cardiac...). The harms can also be wildly exaggerated, which is why we need to be measured & reasonable when discussing it.

Same is true for primary care doctors at @MassGenBrigham; everyone wants to leave -- we haven't had even a cost of living adjustment for 5 years; this is why it's hard to find a PCP.

To confirm what we have always known (despite Drug War propaganda) about #Cannabis
'Alcohol and tobacco cause far more harms to people who consume them, and to society overall, than marijuana does, according to a new government-funded study'

At baseline, cannabis users performed modestly better on tests of numeric memory and fluid intelligence, but no significant differences were observed in longitudinal cognitive change.

Check out my latest blog. How do you know when your drug use is addictive or if it is reasonable? How does it affect your family? What are the guardrails? How do you distinguish "safe" drug use from #addiction?

This study also showed improved sleep, autistic symptoms and Tics in tourettes -- why aren't these findings in the news articles? also, many of the RCTs they used were done during the War on Drug which was only looking for harms #cannabis
