This Is Just To Say

I have turned off
the AI features
that were in
the update

and which
you were probably
hoping
to monetize

Fuck you
they were stupid
so unnecessary
and so annoying

“In order for me to write poetry that isn’t political,

I must listen to the birds.

And in order to hear the birds,

the warplanes must be silent”

It is very difficult to work in an environment where you and your profession is under constant suspicion stoked by those who have little to no experience on the inside. This is the life of teachers and the suspicious are everywhere.

Feedback is not just feedback! It is relationship-building! This should be obvious! Hire more teachers so they/we can do our jobs properly!

"That's AI."

As an 8th grade teacher, this is a new insult the kids have been using this year, even on things unrelated to writing.

Someone does something stupid, or ridiculous, or cruel: "Ugh, you're AI."

As the father of a middle schooler I have seen the rebellion against AI forming there — even using “that’s AI, bro,” not indicating something is literally AI, but that something is metaphorically so — it’s sus, it’s bullshit, it’s bad weird

I am horrified by the prospect of a future in which *I* have become one of the smartest people on the planet simply because I continually refused to use an obviously stupid computer program

what an incredibly short sighted abdication of your role, what a profound failure to understand the stakes here, and such a catastrophic failure of the students whose welfare should be foremost in your list of priorities.

Down on my
knees testing
notes with

my teeth, always
knew a day’d
come I’d

put my wings out
and fly.

Down on my knees testing notes with my teeth, always knew a day’d come I’d put my wings out and fly.

I dove down my mental lake fear and love:
first fear then under it love:

I could see you,
Brilliance, at the bottom. Trust you

stillness in the last red inside place.
Then past the middle of the earth it got light again.

I dove down my mental lake fear and love: first fear then under it love: I could see you, Brilliance, at the bottom. Trust you stillness in the last red inside place. Then past the middle of the earth it got light again.

"The real threat is a slow, comfortable drift toward not understanding what you're doing. Not a dramatic collapse. Not Skynet. Just a generation of researchers who can produce results but can't produce understanding."

Snow in April

Winter, you are
the worst kind

of lover--soon
as I hope for good

you're gone
you return--cold

in hand--
bringing no flowers

Snow in April Winter, you are the worst kind of lover--soon as I hope for good you're gone you return--cold in hand-- bringing no flowers
