Privileged to attend the official launch of the Asian Legal History Association at CUHK Faculty of Law this morning, and to hear Prof Renisa Mawani deliver the inaugural conference’s keynote lecture this afternoon. Congratulations to all involved in such a successful event.
Such a pleasure for @glexareen.bsky.social & me to participate in the USQ-hosted workshop ‘Deliberation & Contestation in Multinational Democracies’ and present (the latest instalment of) our work on the limits of legal pluralism. Many thanks to the participants for the engagement & feedback.
Many thanks to everyone who submitted abstracts to @jenhendry.bsky.social and me for "Global Law and Particular Legalities: Essays in Honour of William Twining". We received an overwhelming number of submissions (well over 80 abstracts), with a very high standard of work across the board. 1/2
We're overjoyed to announce that we are going to create the Foucault's Panopticon, from Foucault's classic cautionary essay For Fucks Sake Don't Let Them Create The Panopticon

NEW from me:
Political hostility, high visa fees and (in the case of the UK) stagnant incomes are making the UK and US less attractive destinations for top international talent.
That steep decline in the appeal of moving to the US after 2016 is 👀
I love to see stuff like this because it helps explain to people trapped in tech-sponsored information bubbles the actually obvious fact that universities teach people to know & think things, and AI is a way to produce the effect of knowing & thinking things w/o actually knowing & thinking them.

This paper that the brilliant @mwewerinke.bsky.social and I coauthored for @iclq.bsky.social is probably my most significant piece of work on statehood and sea-level rise. Find it here, open access: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
MS Word, why do you hate ‘particular’? Sometimes it’s necessary, better even, so miss me with the pass-agg underlining already

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.
Happy publication day!
