[4/4] In sum: Both systems exhibited implicit sequence-specific learning after 3 days of practice, demonstrating that eye movements contribute to implicit motor sequence learning. However, the two systems were not always coordinated, suggesting a dynamic relationship.

[3/4] When examining the relationship between the two systems during practice, we found that reaches were typically faster when preceded by faster-latency (express) saccades. And the magnitude of implicit sequence-specific performance was correlated between the systems, but not always!

[2/4] ...and relatively permanent changes in behaviour, as assessed at a delayed retention test. Notably, saccades were more sensitive to repeated movements and required less practice to exhibit sequence-specific changes.

[1/4] We tracked saccades and arm reaches across 3 days of practice and at a delayed retention test, allowing us to distinguish improvements related to practice from more lasting changes associated with motor sequence learning. Saccades, just like arm reaches, showed sequence-specific improvements..

Excited to share our latest study (work from my PhD)! We investigated the effects of practice of an implicit motor sequence task on both oculomotor and limb motor systems.

Starter packs are great, but they can only have 150 accounts on them. Check out my much larger list of Brain and Mind researchers here - and let me know if you would like to be added! #neuroskyence #psychscisky bsky.app/profile/mica...

A starter pack! Some of my favorite women in neuroscience (sorry if I forgot you, I will add!)
