44 years ago yesterday, my dad-who was my hero—and I got into a canoe accident on the Don River. My dad didn’t make it.
So to mark the moment, I took an outreach shift last night.

On Tuesday morning, the world was witness to a call for the annihilation of a country of 90 plus million human beings by a madman. So I took my son to St. Luke’s UC to make meals for hungry Torontonians.

My outreach partner, DW, has been in the hospital on and off for months. His life of addiction and poverty have taken their toll, but his community stands behind him urging him on.

We found a client sleeping on a grate in -12. We gave them food and wrapped their bare feet in a coat. Unsure if they would survive the night, we called 211 to find a safe place for them to sleep.

As many of you know, the St. Stephens-in-the Field encampment was cleared recently. There were very real people living there. People that we served, people that we checked on, people that we cared about.
