Scene 56: Dad, don’t let them die 44 years ago yesterday, my dad-who was my hero—and I got into a canoe accident on the Don River.

44 years ago yesterday, my dad-who was my hero—and I got into a canoe accident on the Don River. My dad didn’t make it.
So to mark the moment, I took an outreach shift last night.

Scene 55: What an effin week What an effin’ week.

On Tuesday morning, the world was witness to a call for the annihilation of a country of 90 plus million human beings by a madman. So I took my son to St. Luke’s UC to make meals for hungry Torontonians.
Because what else are you gonna do.

Scene 54 Don't Give Up

My outreach partner, DW, has been in the hospital on and off for months. His life of addiction and poverty have taken their toll, but his community stands behind him urging him on.

OK T-Dot: Look outside.
It's a shitsuation. But you are housed, have food, warm clothes. 15,000 of our fellow Torontonians do not.
And we need to help them.
Please consider donating to my Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser to support the outreach team at Veahavta.

In this heinous moment, you might find it odd or even offensive that I am writing about Ve'ahavta Le'reacha Kamocha: Love Your Neighbour as Yourself and recommending that you listen to a Rachel Maddow/Timothy Snyder podcast, but here we are.

We found a client sleeping on a grate in -12. We gave them food and wrapped their bare feet in a coat. Unsure if they would survive the night, we called 211 to find a safe place for them to sleep.

Outreach work is life saving work.

Please donate to my fundraiser for the Ve'ahavta Outreach Angels.

Scene 41 A Letter to The Artist: One of the very real human beings evicted from the St. Stephen's-in-the-Field encampment

As many of you know, the St. Stephens-in-the Field encampment was cleared recently. There were very real people living there. People that we served, people that we checked on, people that we cared about.

Now we don't know where they are.
