This track is so good. I see people saying it’s upbeat despite the really sort of tragic crescendo in the show that it accompanies. It is upbeat, but in the sense of an affirmation of hope when the worst is happening. Like a surrender to hope. Like, “the spirit of God came over me and I wept.”

What a way to frame it. Rather, it is the U.S. — which lost the preceding round of war, was the aggressor killing thousands of Iranian civilians, and violated the ceasefire — that has failed to respond to IRAN’s negotiating positions. The global economy is tanking because of the U.S. and “Israel.”

Which is not to say that I oppose any means of moving to multipolarity. I’m all for that. But what they do is raise the specter of revolution. The imperialists can’t even accept BRICS and the belt and road initiative. Capitalism-imperialism has to be overthrown.
Exactly. Except for this to happen, socialist revolution is necessary, particularly in the imperial core. Peaceful multipolarity under capitalism is impossible, and the theory of that is similar the Soviet Union’s failed theory of peaceful coexistence between socialism and capitalism-imperialism.

Washington demands Cuba privatize, open to foreign investors, and pay back seized assets, or else. Economic coercion paired with military buildup is the playbook of an empire
A person in a medical gown sits on an examination table, facing a nurse holding a tablet. A transparent screen between them shows logos of Abridge, Palantir, Anthropic, and OpenAI, with options labeled "Consent," "Agree," and "Submit." The image includes the National Nurses United logo and text saying, "A.I. GETS IN THE WAY. Don’t let A.I. come between you and your nurse.
Hospital corporations are spending obscene amounts on A.I. so they can reduce the costs of what we really need — the expertise of bedside nurses. 😡

Not that there’s any merit in those right-wing takes. I’m just holding the show up as something really popular and really sophisticated. And it happened in an established franchise. It’s so good because the relative diversity is integral to it, not at all something tacked on as an afterthought.
Andor is the answer to the right-wing culture snobs talking about diversity being “forced” and quality suffering. Andor is diverse and represents multiple subaltern perspectives (Indigenous, working class, lesbian). And it’s so seamless because they were making something they really believed in.
My characterization of Levinas here is very much based on Judith Butler’s critique of him.
And the Exodus is likely not historical, but it doesn’t need to be. There is an ethics and ontology based in that tradition with radical implications if taken seriously. Levinas spelled it out quite clearly and failed to apply it to the most pressing ethical and political situation in front of him.
