Only three movie theatres remain in Canada’s North. What now? | CBC Arts Earlier this month, Yellowknife's only cinema, the Capitol, closed its doors. That's left film exhibitors in the territories worried about access for Northern communities — and hoping for a rebirth.

In case you missed it: I wrote about moviegoing in Canada's North, and how only three cinemas remain between Yukon, NWT & Nunavut

I never thought the first film I ever release on my own label would be a documentary about a rock. But that should tell you something about how good it is.

When I spoke to Brian Allen of Premier theatres back in November for a story on small-town theatres, he said "if you’re paying rent on a property, you’re cooked." A few months later, Premier announced the closure of the Capitol in Yellowknife. Now, only three theatres remain in Canada's North.

Shawn Micallef: Artemis II rekindled our interest in space — which makes the loss of this Toronto landmark hit that much harder Artemis II returns to Earth even as crews demolish the McLaughlin Planetarium, the symbol of a bygone era of enthusiasm for space exploration.

In @thestar.com today I wrote about the dreamy rekindling of space travel coinciding w Toronto’s terrestrial tear down of a communal place to share the Dark Side of the Moon.

Cinecampus becomes CinemaLumière Before repertory pioneer Bob Huber opened the legendary CinemaLumière, the short-lived Cinecampus revived one of Toronto's oldest theatoriums.

I’m fascinated by theatres that are blips in Toronto's cinematic timeline. Places that shut down just as quickly as they opened, but still left their mark. The Cinecampus is one of these venues.

Spotting a young @peterkapow.bsky.social & other pals. I think I met 90% of my current friend circle at these screenings. The movies are indeed the best.

One of the other banks is currently running some ad campaign where a nurse is sitting on public transit and says: “rich? You know what makes me rich?” and then details all the back-breaking life-saving work he does at work all day.

Sask. scraps age-based ratings and mandatory classification for movies | CBC News The province's Film Content Information Act, taking effect April 1, ends mandatory government approval. Each theatre will be required to write and display their own content description instead of the familiar age-based ratings.

Never thought I'd see the day where the 1994 film Exit to Eden would lede a news story, but Saskatchewan is following the lead of other provinces & scrapping film classifications. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
