Shane your latest live wire article states “the Australian tax system is excessively reliant on income tax. Income tax is 62% of tax collections versus the OECD average of 35%”, have you accounted for the fact that this comparison ignores the social security contributions other countries levy?

Not true. Properly planned development around public transport negates the need for car dependence. There is no shortage of water our dams are full and we have a desal plant. The cost of housing can be lowered by providing more housing. These are all fixable issues and more $ to solve rurally anyway
Yes Phillip we want a dense, vibrant, well connected city with lots amenities enabled by the density. It’s a model that has worked in all the worlds greatest cities
Or we could just build enough housing to house everyone. We are a low density city infested with NIMBYs
The important thing is that we all stop listening to these predictable tired scare campaigns and just do good public policy
Classic Minns - cut price everything
Ugh I believed you!
Fuel excise cut would shield Australia from a wider inflation shock at quite low cost, vs allow inflation to reach 6%+ and then have to deal with years of persistent inflation pulsing through every sector of the economy.
Yeah but they had this concern in 2022 and the wage price spiral never eventuated.
“Leading figures” = two libs. Experts consulted say it’s a bad idea. Classic news Corp slop
It’s infuriating and juvenile. What can we do to stop this
Rba wet the bed all of a sudden.. will be forced into another embarrassing credibility shredding backflip in a few months
Australias grid consumed half the gas we did 15 years ago - there has never been a real shortage of gas. We just export it all by design and the gas industry uses their created problem as an argument for more gas licenses, all to also export
Agree. But even replacing 80 studios with 34 multi bedroom apartments is very likely more housing, and that’s good
So glad I left - it’s too quiet here but it’s an absolute mess over there
UPDATE: New Bluesky signups in Christmas Day are on pace to exceed 100,000 for the first time since the fallout of "Liberation Day"

And yet our rba is now saying they’ll be raising rates in 2026. Doesn’t add up
So we want first homes to fall, but the next homes they’ll need to have families to rise beyond their reach? And this is celebrated policy in our country?
Sorry yes got the maths wrong - assuming 2 people per house we need about 380,000 other homes built in that 21 months. Anyone know if we managed that?
In that 21 month period net migration has been approximately 762,000 additional people. So we only now need 762,000-443=761,557 additional homes
I like the sentiment but hasn’t inflation been more than this?
This is a chart crime surely
Commodities don’t have market caps
Cmon Jim you guys must all know that this will simply make homes less affordable in the future as prices rise in response to this policy. It’s a bit sociopathic to say you’re making it easier
…it’s the same phone
Is it fair to say this election has basically served up the same 💩🥪 as the last election?
He’s going to gaol… surely he can’t be a sitting MP if he is in prison unable to vote on legislation or fulfil his role?
Does this mean they will discontinue the quarterly cpi?
NSW Libs could win a lot of votes if they basically ran on a platform of continuing to build the same sort of metro they just completed. Link tullawong to st Mary’s for instance. Or city to Zetland. Huge vote winner but they seem to also be shying away for some reaosn
