Ugh. It’s the worst! Sorry you had to go through that.

Oooh, cicadas! Various broods, underground—just waiting for their time. Sometimes multiple broods find their time together, like a year or two ago (coincidence much?).

You might want to keep this metaphor and delete before some jackalope steaks it, tbh

This should never happen. And yet, here it is in my community.

Please help if you can. Siembra is legit and doing incredible work

Harry Haywood and the Radical Politics of Black Communism For Haywood, a truly radical working-class politics in the United States also required a program of self-determination.

I wrote about the life of Harry Haywood and his newly republished book, Negro Liberation, for @thenation.com www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Let This Radicalize You Doing Justice: The Revolution of Rescue and Reciprocal Care is a practical and imaginative resource for activists and organizers building power in an era of destabilization and catastrophe.

I was going to write today, but until we know more, I don't have any new words for this moment. What I will say is that if you are reeling, and you know you want to be part of making things better, Mariame Kaba and I wrote a book for you. I hope it helps.

I mean, hey, think of where Cheryl Harris’s work went. Whiteness as Property is cited all types of ways.

That’s kinda beautiful tbh. A bit like when Miles Davis said “I’ll play it first, and tell you what it is later.” Sometimes someone makes a contribution (as the academic phrasing goes) and doesn’t know where it will land. Your being called to Black Studies is a wonderful thing, in my eyes

Which to me, seems oddly similar to the legal profession (broadly speaking): the practice of law—especially litigation—is all storytelling; yet, scholarship/jurisprudence is largely “dispassionate” analysis.

Definitely don’t look into what “scholarship” is lauded in education. The mere idea that story or even shared narrative could be important for learning is, hmmm, contested at its most favorable.

Indeed. In many ways it’s a fair translation of my questions about teacher education and research in TE. And I was looking at the “liberals.” 👀 Fascists with a smile

We read for different reasons at different moments! IMHO lol my thinking benefits a lot from reading without discipline in mind. Makes my writing wildly challenging though 🤷🏻‍♂️

To your first point, I try not to overstep my white-ass bounds.

OMFG I’ve been saying Aristotle is trash since I studied Philosophy in undergrad and haven’t quite nailed down why. This is it!

Also, @sashapanaram.bsky.social likely has some insights here. Perhaps also @imeanswhatisays.bsky.social

Most directly perhaps is Quashie. I’d suggest Crawley, Gumbs, and McKittrick next. As you know, poetics per se (🙄) is some ancient whiteness bs anyway. Which is to say, again as you know, Black studies’ take on poetics is expansive. My .02 if it’s helpful

Lemme go to my Black Studies bookshelf…

All of this is bad. None of it is worth keeping.

My political beliefs, paraphrase from a published essay, or both?

The levels of normalization this deployment is doing are exponential.

NOLA airport has various DHS agents all over the place. Many standing around in groups, drinking coffee. This morning two ICE agents checked our IDs at the TSA screening. One scanning IDs, the other, I assume, waiting to apprehend someone.

Everyone else seemed unbothered.

Wow…first: what brilliant Black (feminist) wisdom!

Two (ordinal numbers be dammed!!): this is a sign I ought to actually read the book. I’ve been starving for “inspiration”.

Three! I know, as a creative writing major. You have to sit down to write the thing! Until it gets done, when it gets done!
