Another lovely sunset from the window of the Oak Room here at John Knox House. Wonder how this one compares to the ones it has seen over the last 556 years? #edinburgh #johknoshouse #sunset #royalmile
Love this drawing by the Edinburgh Sketcher of our lovely wee house. Keep up the good work. @www.edinburghsketcher.com
Due to maintenance, John Knox House will be closed 2nd February to 14th February 2026. During this time, there will be no access to the museum, but the Scottish Storytelling centre and Haggis Box Café shall remain open. We apologise for the inconvenience.

No matter what century someone has looked out of one of our windows, the view of the Royal Mile at sunset will always be amazing. #edinburgh #royalmile #sunset #history #edinburghhistory #scotland #historicbuilsing #johnknoxhouse
Visit the oldest shop on the Royal Mile, our wee book shop. If you are looking for a gift this Christmas, pop into our little bookshop on the ground floor of John Knox House. We have a Unique selection of storytelling books for adults and children. #edinburgh #johknoxhouse #bookshop #christmasgifts
Having been on the Royal Mile since 1470 and a museum since 1853, we have accumulated a lot of things. Here is a guidebook from 1991, after we reopened following restorations. Since we have been open as a museum for over 175 years, our own museum keepsakes become historical items themselves.

We recently obtained postcards picturing the inside John Knox House from over 100 years ago. Known as the Knox Series by William Hay- curator of John Knox house for around 40 years from 1903. He had a book shop in the same spot we have a book shop. We hope to display the postcards soon.
