The thing about Vancouver wanting a world class art gallery is we already have one.
The Museum of Anthropology combines two of the greatest visual contributions this land has shared with the world — West Coast Modernism and Northwest Coast Art — into a singular expression of this region.

Things looking a bit shaky here to start. I was expecting more from what seems to be Canada’s best lineup vs Brazil #canwnt #woso
an incredibly important project by Connie Walker — most Canadians don't know that the government has an archive of 38,000 residential school survivor testimonies, which are slated to be destroyed next year www.cbc.ca/news/indigen...
Justin Brake reports from Vancouver, where press freedom in Canada is having its day in court in Bracken/Narwhal v. RCMP.

So much good stuff in this story from March about the heirs of an enslaved, defiant potter, whose works now sell for millions, getting together to negotiate restitution with the museums who own the jars he created and carved his angry thoughts into (nyt gift): www.nytimes.com/2026/03/25/a...
This is so, so well-articulated.
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

A reminder that policing trans women out of sports just creates an interminable witch hunt for all other women in sport.

Me: I think it's fine that Malinin called himself the quad god. Bummer day on the rink.
Also me: What do you mean his music featured his own voiceover? That's weird. That's the weirdest thing you could do. Send him home immediately!
This one is for the girls! Have a great Galentine! 💕😺

Anyone with a decent-sized following on a social media platform is both a customer and a product for that platform’s owners. Regardless of whether the former Twitter is banned in Canada, I don’t know how federal ministers can in good conscience be either.
I imagine a government's argument for remaining on Twitter would be that they should be communicating where people are, but...
a) I would wonder how many people are still on Twitter
and b) there is surely some limit on where the government feels it's appropriate to communicate.
Re-upping this column because the idea seems to be gaining traction. But I think I didn't go far enough in this: the government should obviously be deleting its accounts so as to not have their tweets appear next to CSAM. But it should also be pursuing charges against X and banning it in Canada.
Happy new year may we all be blessed with Jessica Berman getting the boot in 2026
