With millions of Americans at risk of losing coverage due to Republican health care cuts, we're going to see more situations like Orlando's. In our new Health Policy on “The Pitt” video, @awright2care.bsky.social breaks down what the evidence says about coverage— and how we can fight for better.

BIG WIN IN NEBRASKA: Thanks to the organizing efforts of @neappleseed.org and so many others that generated over 1,300 comments to the NE legislature, the legislature listened — the state is dropping a proposed waiver that would have eliminated retroactive Medicaid coverage entirely.
Families USA Executive Director @awright2care.bsky.social caught up with @neappleseed.org Executive Director Becky Gould to talk about why this matters.
We're continuing to explore health policy on "The Pitt"! 🏥
In this video, @awright2care.bsky.social breaks down medical debt — and it starts with Orlando revealing $100K in debt to his family in the ER.

After the biggest cut to Medicaid ever, President Trump's proposed budget would double down on dismantling health and health care, cutting health research and agencies. And yet, what's most notable is what isn't included: any effort to help Americans with health affordability..
🎬 NEW SERIES: Policy on "The Pitt"
Great storytelling takes abstract policy and turns it into something human. "The Pitt" is doing that every week — and @awright2care.bsky.social is breaking it down.
First up: S2E7, where a patient refuses treatment because he can't afford it.
“I do think people recognize that, as we wage the fight to defend coverage and consumer protection and specific communities under attack, that we don’t fall into a trap of defending the status quo that people thought rightly was broken,” said @awright2care.bsky.social.

BREAKING: New enrollment data confirms more Americans uninsured and underinsured as a result of deliberate decisions made in the last year. Coverage in the #ACA marketplaces saw their first decrease in 5 years--a 5% drop of 1.2 million Americans. (1/)
This new data should be a reckoning for Congress to at least pass the short-term solution to extend the enhanced premium tax credits, and keep monthly premiums affordable for 22+ million Americans. Otherwise, Americans will continue to pay more, and get less. (10/)
At the same time, policymakers have done nothing to confront the drivers of rising premiums: unchecked provider prices due to health care consolidation, rising Rx costs, and a smaller and sicker risk pool as healthier consumers are priced out when the tax credits expired. (9/)
These premiums & deductible increases were not inevitable: Republican Congressional leadership blocked extending enhanced premium tax credits that a majority of the House & Senate supported, and President Trump put in place new barriers to marketplace enrollment. (8/)
The result is 1.2 million fewer covered in the marketplace, and also a dramatic shift into worse coverage: enrollment in lower-level, higher deductible bronze plans jumped 10% -- from 30% in 2025 to 40% in 2026. These plans often have deductibles over $10,000. (7/)
Today’s data shows the result of deliberate decisions by President Trump and Congress which have driven millions more Americans to be uninsured or underinsured. People are paying much more in premiums and getting less. (6/)
As a result, the data shows 23.1 million people enrolled in coverage in 2026, down from 24.3 million in 2025, a decrease of 1.2 million people, or nearly 5 percent--and a marked increase in Americans moving into high-deductible plans. (5/)
Even after #ACA affordability assistance, the average monthly premium was $111 in 2024 and $113 in 2025--but then jumps to $178 in 2026. That means a $780 average annual increase in premium costs--and thousands more for many depending on age and income. (4/)
The average base monthly premium (before any tax credits) was $579 in 2021, $585 in 2022, $605 in 2023 and 2024, $619 in 2025, but then jumped to $741 in 2026. (3/)
The data shows big premium spikes, a falloff on coverage, and a major shift into bronze plans with very high deducitbles. The new data released late Friday, from a CMS report on "Health Insurance Exchanges 2026 Open Enrollment Report" is available here: cms.gov/files/docume...

His constant breaking makes him 2nd tier.
I still want to know what was in that expresso, and I don't even drink coffee. #WBC
Trump's assholery has killed a wonderful advanced X-ray astronomical mission that has been in development for almost a decade.

If you're at the airport and Kristi Noem is doing the ominous little message from the TSA screens, you no longer have to do anything she says. Leave your laptop in the case, whatever.
The costs of this Iran war debacle will likely be more than the cost of extending the ACA health insurance subsidies.
If you asked Americans, which do you want: another war in the Middle East or lower health care costs at home, is the margin 90 to 10? 95 to 5?
Today should be your 38th birthday.. When you lose your son you lose more than a child you lose a piece of your heart and your joy. Life is forever altered, and nothing can ever fill that space. Yet in my soul, he remains, my precious boy, forever loved. His laughter, his smile, and his love are woven into who I am. My love for him will never fade. That was a long speech, but short on real solutions to affordability, including on health care costs. President Trump's #SOTU showed a stark contrast between public promises to lower health costs and his actual policies of deliberate decisions to double premiums. #SOTU2026
Much to comment about the ending of the @SOTU honoring American history, but it makes me wistful, since the current Administration seems to be attacking what has made this country successful and special: our higher education and research system, our welcoming of immigrants, our common cause, etc.
SOTU fact check
President Trump's health plan isn't the one page of bullet points on the website, but pages of massive health cuts he signed into law.
The potential plan is to partially defray costs for those who choose lower-value high-deductible plans--literally paying more and getting less. #SOTU2026
