I read this in December. So much I didn't know! I didn't even know who Ona Judge was until my now-sophomore learned about her during BHM in first grade.

We need to keep making the connections between transportation infrastructure and public health.

I also wonder about people with small children or medical needs. Like, why can't they just scan the bags???
When you have a bag (or item) you're not supposed to have, they always suggest you "put it in the car."
(I think they have lockers available in the area now. Back when my kid danced for the Storm, they didn't even have those.)
This is so real. And doesn't at all align with their "take transit to a game" thing.
There's so much more! So much thought and intention went into this installation. It's worth taking the time to explore.

An artistic rendering of author Charles Johnson on a glass panel

A representation of cut-paper art on glass panels: this one of an adult human surrounded by birds
And speaking of Line 2...
Barbara Earl Thomas's art at Judkins Park Station, is absolutely breathtaking. I am a huge fan of Thomas--as an artist, writer, and human being--and I am in love with the station because of her.

This is a photo (taken inside Douglass-Truth Library) of two chairs with an end table between them. There is a vintage telephone a small sign, and some brochures on the table. The small sign lists the recorded stories you can listen to on the phone and instructions for listening. Behind the table is a sign that reads, "Neighborhood Black Histories."

I rarely reread books, but Sula is one I've reread several times. The first reread was after 20+ years, and I experienced it so differently.
Great idea to reread books you loved back in the day.
So holding on to stuff as long as it works is now known as "hoarding"???
Meskel and Bebe have been an important part of the neighborhood for decades. If you're in Seattle (and especially if you're in the CD) and have something to spare, please donate. If you don't have anything to spare, please share.
SAME❤️
As @adriennemareebrown.bsky.social says, "When you are overwhelmed by the big picture, make the picture you are looking at smaller. In what ways can I be a neighbor today?"

I will be at the event in Seattle. Looking forward!
I received this yesterday and was confused, to say the least.
Thank you for writing the book and sharing your hard-won wisdom. 💗
Grateful to these folks. Will ask my own AG (Nick Brown) why he's not on here.
