Today Ed Miliband, the UK's Secretary of State, shared plans on scaling up the UK’s clean energy mission.
He shared that the Government owes it to the British people to deliver on their plans; for warmer homes, cleaner air and lower bills.

The potential is massive once this financial barrier is removed. A Rooted Patriot in Anglesey told us: "I've got solar power and it's absolutely brilliant. Tonight I'll probably make about £8 in profit just exporting energy back to the grid."
We also see this gap in our research. People embrace clean energy, but without more grants and support for lower-income households, they're being left behind.

📢 Just in: 1 in 3 people are more interested in home energy options since the Iran war, but 60% can’t afford them.
Clean energy should be a reality for everyone - not just those who can afford the start-up costs.

📈 8 in 10 people in the UK fear rising energy bills as a result of the war in Iran, according to new research issued by @endfuelpoverty.bsky.social.
A majority of Brits also believe that the energy industry is profiteering from the conflict.

Senior climate figures have warned new UK oil & gas fields would impinge on our international climate targets and undermine the UK’s climate leadership.
The Rosebank oil field risks further fragmenting the nation’s trust in leaders.

Plug-in solar could save a typical UK household £110 on electricity bills every year across a panel’s 15-year lifespan.
☀️ The good news is only 11% of us don’t like seeing solar panels on people’s roofs.

The war in Iran has brought about a chorus of voices urging us to ‘drill baby drill’.
🛢 It also exposes our reliance on fossil fuels, which people are concerned about. So what’s the logical path forward?

💡 Framing messages using these kinds of issues – alongside saving money on energy bills, or building energy security through homegrown renewable power – are all well-established ways of linking the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ on net zero policies, and are also crucial to rebuilding climate salience.
💬 Climate, nature and the environment emerged as key talking points. Hannah Spencer discussed a range of local and national environmental issues, from poor air quality in Manchester, to insulation and fuel poverty – framing nature and environment as ‘every day parts of life’.
Key insights:
📰 Across 21 Green Party leaflets since Zack Polanki’s first conference speech as leader last year, we found one mention of ‘climate change’ and no mentions of ‘net zero’. ‘Environment’ was mentioned seven times and ‘nature’ just once.
🟢 With the Green Party riding high in the polls, to what extent are they talking about climate issues? What does this mean for our communications?

Our research tells a very similar tale to IPPR's latest report: more Britons think net zero is good for the UK than bad, and people are more supportive if its benefits are spelt out.

🎉 Great news: the UK’s emissions fell to their lowest level in 150 years last year, with coal use roughly halving.
𖣘 We also saw record-breaking generation from renewable sources, especially wind & solar.
