Carney has announced he’s temporarily dropping the relatively small gas tax. He didn’t need to do that, with Poilievre in a free fall. And all it does is fuel the idea that gas taxes drive gas prices, which they obviously don’t. This was a mistake, similar to letting the carbon tax be reframed.

$1000 fine for killing a woman in a parking lot with a modified pickup truck that must be noncompliant with regulations - protruding tires for one. Shameful. Should be a hefty personal punishment and impoundment of the truck until it’s made compliant. @visionzerovancouver

Notification letter received for the long overdue expanded Main/Kingsway bus lanes! Implementation starting in April. Enforcement better follow. Now if only the 7-7 lanes could be 24/7, and red… @movementyvr.bsky.social
Can we expect robust transit priority measures on Howe & Seymour streets, including “off-peak” times, so transit passengers aren’t collateral damage. Especially when the City is relying on transit to get people to/from World Cup events.
Another smash up at Main and 6th. Looks to be a combo of an illegal left turner (BMW SUV) and a fast driving bus lane violator (Honda Civic) connecting in the intersection. @visionzerovancouver.ca
The climate crisis has hit BC with droughts, flooding, “wild” fires and intensely damaging storms. But here’s a BC NDP fundraising letter sent to an inner city riding espousing cheap, carbon-intensive automobility.
Great interview about the dangers of oversized personal trucks. Do ICBC insurance premiums appropriately price the risk of these vehicles? Could the City’s on-street parking charges be proportional to vehicle length?
As a neighbourhood resident and pedestrian I’d say that Main/Kingsway/7th has unusual geometry but:
- 2 busy approaches have no right on red
- there are no uncontrolled left turns across active crosswalks
So as a pedestrian it’s often not as bad as Main/2nd, Main/Terminal and Quebec/Terminal.
30” seat pitch on this TransLink Mark II #SkyTrain. Room for my carry on bag at my feet too. Take that #WestJet
Let’s keep anti-greenwashing, rules in place. Grossly misleading ads like this should not be seen again!

Poorly prepared for obvious questions.
I’m stopping my donations to @liberalca.bsky.social
I’ve requested that my Victory Fund donations be stopped. This is a cave-in to Big Oil and their political mercenaries.
Eby repealed a carbon tax that had been working in BC for almost 2 decades in order to make gas a bit cheaper, and handed out $410 million to drivers for basically no reason. And now there's no money for active transport grants. 300 people a year are killed in BC in motor vehicle crashes.
It’s being run as much as possible and has been in pretty continuous service since Thursday. It’s starting off staffed to allow quick responses to any teething issues so might not be out late evenings.
One reason for @cityofvancouver.bsky.social vanishing road lines? Including those that aren’t repainted over a year after contacting 311? (Stop line NB Cambie at W 2nd Ave)

Mexico is moving rapidly to restore passenger rail on a 3,000 km network, mainly of existing railways used by freight, at a cost of about Cdn$10B. Isn't it time Canada invested in restoring services and routes too?

Time for average speed and spot speed cameras. And fines for obstructed and missing license plates.
And in Japan vehicle drivers must come to a full stop before proceeding across a level crossing.
Great news overall if transit speed and reliability on Howe and Seymour can be made better than the “not very good” on Granville today. It will no doubt take 24/7 red bus lanes, better traffic signals, and measures to separate right-turning cars from buses. And deprioritising on-street parking.
Manitoba & Saskatchewan have declared states of emergency due to massive, uncontrolled forest fires. The premier of Manitoba declared a gas tax holiday esp for pickup trucks when elected. The premier of Saskatchewan supports oil & gas and opposes action on #climatechange.

More cities would do well to emulate Montreal’s universal no right on red and green through arrow leading pedestrian interval.
Congratulations Lucy! Council needs your great voice for sustainable transportation!
RIP BC Consumer #CarbonTax (2008-25) Introduced by the right-leaning Campbell government. The most economically efficient way to reduce emissions. Rebates for low income people. Killed by a concerted campaign of selective and disinformation.

Aside from a litany of safety and environmental problems, the size and reduced visibility due to SUVs also reduces roadway capacity, increasing congestion.
City Engineering got back to me and a significant change to address this right turn situation is in the works for implementation within a year.
Note the ABC #vanpoli campaign sign!
This is a profoundly disturbing summary of the rampant corruption of the Trump-Musk regime. If they expect to avoid prosecution for this down the road it raises even more alarming questions about the future of democracy and justice in the United States.
