Columbus, we’ve been listening.

You’ve asked for something bold, different and more connected.

So today, we’re introducing a new direction for transit in Central Ohio: we’re rebranding from Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) to Transit Access in Columbus Ohio (TACO).

At The Freedom Collective, long-term support starts with access — to care, to opportunity and to a path forward.

COTA helps make those connections possible year-round, ensuring transportation isn’t a barrier for the women working to rebuild, grow and move ahead.

Women operating COTA buses? Nothing new here.

Since 1974, women have been behind the wheel. In 1977, Betty Scott and Wanda Mineard pushed for uniforms designed for women.

Honoring them this Women’s History Month.

Women help keep our fleet safe, reliable and ready to move.

From leadership to operations to maintenance, their impact is visible across every mile we serve.

It’s not new. It’s who we are.

Early mornings. Long days. Rain, snow and everything in between.

Riders shared these moments to recognize the Operators who made a difference, through patience, care and showing up when it mattered most.

Thank you for everything you do to keep every life moving forward.

Women driving our routes and moving our city isn’t new.

In fact, our women Operators are nearly double the national average for the transit industry, proof that representation behind the wheel has long been part of who we are.

It’s just how we operate.

At COTA, women leading, driving and maintaining our fleet isn’t new. The idea that those roles “aren’t for women” has never reflected who we are.

Today, women make up nearly 35% of our management and leadership team and 40% of our Board of Trustees.

Women in leadership at COTA isn’t new. Since the first woman stepped into a leadership role in 1994, women have led with intention, shaped strategy and helped move Central Ohio forward. To kick off #WomensHistoryMonth, we’re celebrating that legacy.
