A graph titled “the public health success of the measles vaccine” that shows the number of measles cases in the United States plummeting after the vaccine was introduced in 1963
I showed this graph in class yesterday on how measles cases in the United States plummeted dramatically after the vaccine was licensed in 1963. It’s not subtle and I could not resist observing: “This stunning design in measles cases was not thanks to vitamin A. It was not due to beef tallow.”
Good job, NYPD.
Goodnight Blue Sky
really can't be said enough that this case was decided by the same court that decided plessy v. ferguson. if they could have found a plausible rationale to limit birthright citizenship they would have done it. but there is none! the text is as clear as constitutional language can be.
Omg! Huge shoutout to San Francisco, CA! Ocean Beach, you crushed it! 🌊

Take two minutes to watch this piece with NYT photojournalist Kenny Holston, the only news photographer on the House floor during Trump’s State of the Union speech.
There’s one shot in particular that will likely end up in the history books.
See if you catch which one.
It's all a game to him. When he gets bored with this one, he'll go bomb somewhere else - we are nothing more than fuel for his Iron Whim.
Cuba is confronting the U.S.’s first effective blockade since the Cuban Missile Crisis and running out of fuel fast, pushing the nation toward a humanitarian crisis and its government to the edge of collapse, according to a New York Times analysis. nyti.ms/4cG5Hz3

Today is the birthday of #GalileoGalilei, the great Italian astronomer and physicist, whose defense of Copernican heliocentrism famously led to his trial at the hands of the Roman Inquisition. #💙📚 #Booksky
This is a staggering loss of scientific, medical, and research knowledge from our country. More than that, it's a huge loss for all of us who benefitted from the cures and innovations these PhD experts helped to create. #HigherEdBenefitsEveryone www.science.org/content/arti...
I’ve done a pretty good job of not letting the horrors get to me and send me down a mental health spiral again. But the image of a child that young going through something like this while having a four year-old at home take me to tears and fills me with incandescent rage

USPS Now tracking political mail I am a mail carrier. I have been so for a number of years, through election cycles. Today, I was informed that we must now, on top of our other duties, track political mail, where it is delivered to, and if it IS delivered. To give some context to that, we were trained that it is a felony to tamper with or impede the delivery of mail, period. Because we're humans, intent means a lot, because it is easily possible for someone to miss a letter for whatever reason, and the USPS does not want to punish people for honest mistakes. However, now: dispite the fact that it is a felony to mess with mail delivery, and the fact that we have that drilled into us during training, we are being required to track the delivery of politcal mail specifically. IDK if this has the same legal restrictions on info gathering that the USPS has typically had with protecting PlI, but I suspect it doesn't. I suspect it's made to ensure we are delivering republican political mail and to track who is receiving democratic poli* mail.

ICE is arresting people who are here LEGALLY, then sending them to a Texas detention camp. Once it's determined those people shouldn't be arrested, they are abandoned, left on their own to make it home. /1

This is incredible (incredibly sad tbh)
JUST IN: A federal judge has barred ICE and DHS from using taxpayer information provided by the IRS.
Judge Talwani says that DHS' view that noncitizens lack 4th amendment rights — combined with ICE use of administrative warrants — is a recipe for abuse.
