And that’s a wrap! It has been an absolute honour to be RCN council
member, and I have learnt so much from some truly inspirational students, nurses, and @rcn.org.uk staff.
I cannot recommend putting yourself forward for this role enough, and thank you to everyone who voted for and supported me!

Beds alone don’t create more patient capacity - and certainly corridor care doesn’t.
More nurses create more capacity. Without that we are just throwing good money at bad.
Unfortunately don’t think I count as newly qualified anymore now that I’m over a year qualified, there’s a whole year beneath me!
Nursing has the power to change lives and society. And it is for nurses to wield that power. To advocate for our profession with care and passion. I’m
sure I’ll be back at some point within the RCN, but for now I’m happy to focus on being a new nurse advocating within my workplace! #nursesky
But I have every faith that the RCN won’t stop advocating for nurses. I finish with the thought that got me elected, nurses are advocates for our patients, but who advocates for us? The answer I’ve settled on - every one of us has that responsibility to our profession. @thercn.bsky.social
Unfortunately, nursing is still in a pretty rough shape but just because I’m leaving doesn’t mean I’ll stop campaigning. 50% rise in nurses leaving the register, falling student numbers and increasing staff shortages are all still in the same place if not worse than when I began.
On Tuesday I have my final meeting as RCN council member meeting with the student committee. I have a whole host of emotions about leaving this role, and wish my successor all the best!
I have learnt so much in this role and got to meet so many inspiring nurses.
Ahaha got to get one with the boss ay
I’m writing a piece on this at the moment, although mainly looking at the definition of care and how we seem to constantly undermine the value of care, and how it is a professional, highly skilled trait

Congratulations Leanne! You were one of the first people I followed when I was elected to council two years ago!
