Digital painting. A Dreamcatcher readies his equipment in a city backstreet
Dreamcatcher
Pen drawing of a being in a multi-lobed helmet with eye pieces set around it whose body flows into an emaciated torso and arms that opens up into a larger mass that resembles columns and arches made of boney material with thin flesh stretched across them. It flows into other organic shapes and grey alien style faces and bodies enmeshed in the bio-mechanical matrix. Another figure floats by down and to the left while the backdrop to the scene are large, fogged glass circular windows with a central one behind the main figure, two half visible ones around the central and one on each side. Filling the rest of the scene are a number of eyes embedded in the walls along with skulls overlaying some pipes and girders.

I promised I’d do two bingo cards last year. I’ve belatedly posted the second, complete with mini-reviews and ideas for how to use the books for 2026 Bingo: www.tarvolon.com/2026/04/20/2...
One of the two cards I had the pleasure of painting for Swords Without Master

Get in Trouble by Kelly Link.
So not only do I have to make more room on my favorite stories shelf but also have to keep the stories-within-stories straight as well - thanks @kellylink.bsky.social for more timeless troublesome fun. (I know this is an older one but it's gold.)

*only for some writers, in some circumstances, some of the time. talk to your doctor to see if this advice is right for you. side effects include
a lot of great advice along the lines of "write anything don't worry if bad." and that's right.
but because i'm contrarian, an alternative. don't write. let it build pressure. let it bother you and drive you insane. when it spills out it'll be a relief or compulsion more than something to fear.*
A whole new scam aimed at writers:
- get an email from a writers conference asking for you as a speaker
- google the conference: it's real
- say 'yeah, let's do it'
- the 'fee' is mentioned for the first time
- you check with friends listed for the event and find out the email reply address is fake

One month in and the reviews for Hornytown Chutzpah are trickling in. This one made my day. It was written by a Kansas City, MO #librarian.

I saw Joe’s writing recently described as ‘transcendental, baroque, lyrical alchemy’. Wingspan was my first encounter with it and it altered my brain chemistry. Love seeing this book still getting traction and now an audiobook years later.
La Grande Maison Tokyo is like The Bear if they focused less on Carmy's baggage and went all in on the food and the restaurant winning all the time (and I like The Bear and Carmy a lot tbc). enjoyed the hell out of it
(Screenshot of Amazon review) Five stars - Verified Purchase Spider dreams guaranteed Got these for a transatlantic flight from Seattle. Took effect about 20 minutes from consumption. I slept for about 4 hours and continued to use them to adjust to the timezone change. Every night I had the same dream about a spider wrapping me in a web very tightly and speaking backwards. It seemed very scared and was furious I could not understand what it was trying to say. 20 years passed in the dream world and eventually the spider and I became close friends and four years later we were married. Understandably our differences were too much and our relationship fell apart from the inside. My infidelity was the last straw and we never recovered from the betrayal. I would always wake up write before we signed the divorce papers. I had this same dream every night for 6 days. Great product. Highly recommend.
