I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

Genuinely? Too much online time. Shit is fucked ip everywhere, but there's also a lot of good things and people and we have been overexposed online to tragedies and horror. We all need a detox

A page from Ilona Andrew’s book ‘This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me’.
The text reads “"You and I are on the same page. Hreban perpetrated torture and murder.
He should be brought to justice. But killing him now would just postpone the inevitable. People like him rise to power not because they are incredibly capable but because the situation is ripe for it. Hreban murdered that boy and dumped his body to test Kair Toren. If eliminating Hreban could solve this problem, the city would've roared in outrage. Instead they let him get away with it." Reynald's expression turned calculating. "Rellas has become accustomed to the Great Families wielding unchecked power."
"Yes. And the higher he rises, the less accountable he becomes. Power attracts supporters. After Hreban receives the royal mandate, he reaches out to the Order of the Redeemer. Silveren has misgivings but in the end he sees a way to elevate his order above the Defenders and the Conquerors. The Redeemers become Hreban's enforcers."
"You're telling me that a holy order willingly chooses to support Ulmar Hre-
ban? The man despised by the entire knighthood?"
"Yes. By that point enough things happen to throw the other two knight orders off-balance. They leave Kair Toren, and Silveren jumps on that oppor-tunity. With knights at his back, Hreban is unstoppable. Competing merchant guilds who wouldn't do business with him enter losing deals to curry favor.
Councilors who denounced him crawl to his house bearing gifts to save them-selves. In the end, nobody can keep him in check."
"All the more reason to remove him now."
"But even now, before any of this happens, Hreban is likely not alone. He must've made alliances and bargains. If you kill him, whoever is working with him will simply take his place and continue.””

Cover of THIS KINGDOM WILL NOT KILL ME byu #1 NYT bestseller Ilona Andrews. There is a tower on the front where the book cover opens. A giant white bird wing curls on the opposite side around the two circles with title & author names. Behind that a fortress under a blue sky. The third circle is top near the opening of the cover. It appears to be a moon. The bird's head and long neck are in front of the moon.

Finished This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me and immediately started it again, which I think is a new one for me. I can’t remember ever doing that but I knew I’d missed SO many little things and I wanted to pick them up. The audiobook is 21 hours long and I still have questions??

People used to be jealous of Tolkien's Elves for their immortality. But Tolkien wasn't. His Elves were tied body & soul to the earth. They could never leave it.

In his mythology, Elves sometimes envied the death that awaited humans. Because human spirits were freed from "the circles of the world."

All the indie authors who use AI for their covers because “what am I supposed to do, I can’t afford an artist” would probably have a melt down if artists did paintings and had AI write books to go with the paintings.

Anyway, shout out to indie authors who have really bad photoshop covers.
