there's a common conception of tweets as off-hand, ephemeral comments instead of as enduring pieces of writing

dredging up years-old tweets is weird behavior for most people

when I don't get compliments: doing things for social approval is cowardly & weak-willed. independence and freedom require never giving in to to wants of others

when I get compliments: people doing things for other's sake is the basis of civilization & it is only right to seek other's approval

I like to pretend I'm one of the weirdos with consistent principles but I think I just have sympathy for a certain type of guy who will never take power

free speech is supported by people who are afraid of being targetted by censors

10-20 years ago, the censors were christian warmongers, nowadays they're dei folx

seems to me that the de facto primary purpose of speed limits is to cultivate a sense of disregard for the law

given that ~nobody actually follows the law here, & the consequences for breaking the law are so small

Bluesky

there is an option in the settings menu on bluesky to generate an app password, which is for non-bluesky apps

you do not put your real password in the other apps

app passwords are a bsky feature to allow you to give other apps limited access to your account while they work on implementing oauth properly

why would you ever go over there, my god

unfollowing gets rid of most of it, but blocking is good for hiding qt dunks, annoying replies, & malicious users

2 years ago 3 0 0 0

there are an infinite number of posts you can read, blocking is about filtering the worst ones out

think in terms of signal/noise & in terms of moderating communities - there are people who make your bsky experience more informative, more fun, more interesting, & those who do the opposite

tpot is so illegible not even tpotters know who's in it
