It’s finally happened. After 18 months. Finally, a media merger you can root for.

We won.

Tesla Chicago is closed.

Their new location is in a ghost town. They sacrificed visibility to thousands/day--& proximity to the other luxury car dealerships--to get away from us, because we'd turned their brand ambassador location into a liability.

Organizing works.

Searching for the ‘Smoking Gun’ in US Pedestrian Deaths Why did American streets get so deadly for those on foot or bikes? A leading transportation safety researcher sees some surprising factors behind the crisis.

"The US situation is a perfect storm, with high-speed arterials, distraction from phones, and big SUVs. In Europe, roadways are much slower, which provides a level of protection." @davidzipper.bsky.social interviews bike/ped safety expert Prof. Nick Ferenchak. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

can we regulate car speed first? I see cars killing pedestrians all the time. I never see ebikes riding on sidewalks going over 28mph. Granted, there should be some regulation but over 1,000 people a year are dying because of speeding cars....

Listened to the WBEZs Say More on Cycling in the City. They had Chris Willard from Small Shop Cycles in Bronzeville and one understated thing he said was "everyone can do with slowing down a little." I dont understand why alders are against lowering the speed limit. It's been shown to reduce crashes

There was a person standing in the middle of this uncomfortable 70-80ft road trying to take a picture of the Chicago marquee. Looked so awkward with cars whizzing by them. WELCOME TO CHICAGO! @blockclubchi.bsky.social @wbez.org @wttw.bsky.social

Here's the newly reopened State st. What I see here is wasted tax dollars preserving the misguided racist urban planning of the past. Instead of using the money allotted for this project to bring infrastructure into the 21st century CDOT, the Mayor & alderman kept it the same.

When growth transforms a rural highway into a suburban arterial, deadly conditions follow – especially for people who are not in vehicles.

Eric Dumbaugh and Jonathan Stiles: “Land use decisions – not just street design – are a primary driver of the elevated risk faced by vulnerable road users.” ...

What Kyoto taught me about designing cities for humans - Chicago Reader Artist Bianca Pastel believes that the people designing our city’s infrastructure should think like artists.

Love this write up.Usually, Im anxious to walk outside but when I do I'm immediately happy and uplifted when I step out. Agree most spaces should prioritize people.Hoping that transit and housing will lead us, one day, to this type of flexibility in our shared spaces.A lot of BS to undo though first

First the city council in this Missouri city approved a $6 billion data center, despite massive pushback.

Then, during yesterday’s election in Festus, MO, residents overwhelmingly voted to kick out the incumbents who voted for the project.

America is fed up with data centers.

When will we finally move from the “fundamental right” to cheap gas and cheap flights to the… #FairTransportTransition now!

– Urban structures that don’t function without a car.
– Public transportation that can’t keep up.
– Bike paths that end abruptly or don’t exist at all.

This isn’t a force of nature — these are political decisions that have made people car-dependent.

The state of high-speed rail in the U.S.
The state of high-speed rail in the U.S. YouTube video by 60 Minutes

Feel like Illinois positioned well for the first high speed rail. Why didn't Brandon Johnson appoint someone to the High speed rail board? Are trains not progressive or something? Or is there just a republican tilt to our city politics?

Sons of Bluesky, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.
