Harry CAUL. See. Ay. You. El.
Steve Gorman was such a good drummer its hard to understand sometimes how the whole scene slept on this guy. The slower they played Sting Me, the filthier it got, not performing this in front of an audience had great benefit youtu.be/FJW6Vkaogh0?...
jfc Marshall swings the illest pocket in this slower tempo for bearded lady, Im not usually having about the holdsworth era of this band but this is disgusting youtu.be/0Njha56tQtg?...

whos with me?
when they got to this studio they hated it, so they ripped out the brand new carpet in the jam room wo the owners permission. So like, the studio smells of brand new carpet except its a shitty stained concrete floor w tacklace border & Ward doesnt have his kit on a riser.

corky laing had a very similar laid back pocket that pushed but he could never float it the way Kapstad naturally does. youtu.be/CZCE23V_zFo?...
forever haunted by all the nights I spent sitting behind Kapstad watching him play this song just not comprehending how anyone could play like this so naturally. Someday the world will recognize that he's one of the absolute best musicians ever to live. youtu.be/JOndV56Bs_c?...

#RIP Soft Machine's Mike Ratledge. I always used to see him loping around Soho in the 2010s, often hanging out at Blacks Club when it was still cool. He always looked magnificent in trademark black greatcoat, like the best Doctor Who/Master who never was.
Mike Ratledge died today. Leading member of the "we made a world changing record in 1971" club. George Chkiantz engineering this at Olympic. They were right to put Ratledge in the foreground. This one forever is peak Soft Machine.

happy anniversary to the peak show of 1973, performed in a cafeteria for an audience numbering a handful, end of the club days, shortly after this on the timeline they broke the attendance record at Tampa Stadium and the world was never the same. youtu.be/SyNWEeRmAUI?...
when the Altadena post office burned, I lost this record which was out for delivery. I will find another. Hiseman and Carr ruling pain on this performance. youtu.be/1U9U1JjvRt0?...

surely the best drummer ever to live but perhaps the top .00001% of musicians ever to walk the earth what a fucking loss.
