Hello,

I hope you are doing well. I am reaching out to inquire about the availability of your venue for a wedding in 2025 and would appreciate more information about your offerings.

Could you please provide details on the following:

Accommodation options and pricing
Wedding and event packages, including hall décor and floral arrangements
Venue capacity and available amenities
Your booking process for luxury boat cruises, dining experiences, resort stays, and any other upscale activities available for our guests.

We are also interested in exploring luxury cruise options and nearby fine dining experiences for our guests. If you offer these services or can assist with arranging them, we would love to learn more so we can plan accordingly in advance.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response and learning more about what your venue has to offer.

Best regards,
Katherine.

Should The LHCb experiment rent out its cavern for luxury weddings during the long shutdown? (With mandatory hard hats of course). #spam @lhcb.bsky.social

Katy Perry rented the Globe for her 40th birthday party which also included some underground tour with other VIPs. So there is certainly experience at CERN with this kind of events. And yes, all of them had to wear hard hats for the cavern tour.

How hidden contributions power modern research The people who work behind the scenes to keep research moving say that there should be more recognition for their roles.

Research of today is a team sport. Much of it depends on scientists in research-support roles who remain largely unseen, uncredited and frequently underpaid.

Research is an ecosystem; every niche needs to be recognised

Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X
Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

For context: almost all permanent jobs at CERN are only open to people already employed on fixed term contracts (excluding PhD students or fellows). So the few permanent jobs anybody can apply to are a very big deal.

Hilarious job advertisement by CERN. A fixed term limited duration job in the FCC group is advertised as "Lead Experimental Particle Physicist", while the single annual permanent position with open profile, among the most prestigious positions in the field, is advertised as "Experimental Physicist"

#ResearchWonderland

Is your university spending large amounts of money on licencing fees for entertainment purposes? Somebody should audit this.

LHCb collecting more integrated luminosity than ATLAS and CMS. I don't remember seeing this ever.

Unfortunately not a new phenomenon. At least 10 years ago the number of "news articles" that simply covered a Twitter quote surged.

Noether's work was certainly instrumental in the development of Gauge theories throughout the 20th century, and in particular the way we describe the Electroweak and the Strong interactions in the Standard Model of particle physics.

Physics got very far in explaining all we observe by just assuming several symmetries in our universe (you should read about Emmy Noether), and a couple dozen constants. If there is an even more fundamental structure behind this from which all of this follows, is an open question.

No, the asymmetries in e+e- scattering originate from the structure of the Weak interaction of the Z-boson which favours coupling to left-handed particles (and right-handed antiparticles), which then results in biases in the observed angular correlations.

I am sure that all of these presentations have been carefully rehearsed. Something that some more senior speakers should also consider to get the timing right.

I just finished chairing a session on the measurement of double Higgs boson production with 8 fantastic talks by PhD and master students from ATLAS, CMS and theory. I did not even get to use my -1 minute sign 😢

Higgs Boson was UK triumph, but British physics faces 'catastrophic' cuts Britain is preparing to cancel its contribution to one of the Large Hadron Collider's next major upgrades.

UK particle physics and astronomy are facing “catastrophic” cuts while science spending received a record increase. Documents seen by ⁦‪@BBCNews‬⁩ suggest money has been diverted away to government research areas🧪. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
